On , AMPLIFY Girls partners in Rwanda🇷🇼 mobilized local leaders, organizations, and girls in Kayonza District under the theme 'Empowering Girls for a Bright Future' to create awareness of the need to end child marriage and prevent teenage pregnancy.

AG Rwanda partners marked the day with an awareness walk, a roundtable, and an exhibition of girls' innovative businesses.

On the , AMPLIFY Girls network partners in Kenya mobilized girls and young women to attend the Nairobi County International Day of the Girl celebration at the Nairobi Arboretum under this year’s theme, ‘end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.'

The gathering gave girls space to participate, listen, share their perspectives, build connections, and engage in advocacy around girls' rights.

This year's theme reminds us that every girl deserves a childhood, an education, safety, and the freedom to shape her future. When systems protect girls, invest in their education and well-being, and listen to their voices, girls can shape their own futures.

"Let girls design the solutions." — Hon. Dr. Tecla Chebet Tum, Advisor on Gender Affairs, Executive Office of the President of Kenya

Girls cannot have agency while being excluded from the rooms where decisions about their lives are made.

'Let girls design the solutions' means more than listening to girls or inviting them into the conversation. It means giving girls a place in shaping the policies, programs, and decisions that affect them.

As Dr. Tum put it in her last call to action at : “We cannot give girls agency while keeping them out of the room where decisions are made.”

This the AG Kenya partners are creating space for girls and young women to lead the conversation. 👏

Today at 2.00pm EAT, join us in this girl-led webinar inspired by this year’s theme, 'End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls' Rights,' featuring girls and young women from the AMPLIFY Girls Network Partners in Kenya.

The is almost here, and our partners have already begun joint advocacy activities, starting with Uganda!👏 This week, on the 6th of October, AG's Uganda network partners brought together 200 girls from 12 schools to celebrate .✨

During the celebration, adolescent girls held girl-led group conversations on the barriers that limit them from exercising their agency and reaching their full potential. The sessions were facilitated by Girl Up Initiative Uganda's mentors and school teachers. The girls later presented on the change they want to see at home, in school, in the community, and in leadership. The girls talked about staying in school, the need to end child marriage, and support girls' rights, choices, and aspirations.

AG partners represented were: Girl Up Uganda, I Profile Foundation, Reach A Hand Uganda, and Girl Power Foundation Uganda. The African Women and Girls Organisation (AWAGO) also joined the celebration and facilitated a grounding meditation session for the girls.

At , Hon. Dr. Tecla Chebet Tum’s first call was to governments, echoing our call to action this : end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights.

Her message went straight to the gap between what the law promises and what girls experience.

She called for legal systems to stop contradicting one another, and for school re-entry to move beyond policy commitments: becoming binding, enforceable, and backed by the resources needed to make them work.

Because, as she reminded the room, “we cannot close the barriers facing girls when the protections meant to support them remain fragmented or unfunded.”

At the global launch of Barriers to Girls' Agency in East and Southern Africa during , two adolescent girls from our network named the barriers they face in their communities and what it will take to remove them.

Dr. Tum closed with a call to everyone in the room: let girls design the solutions. Decisions about their schooling, their bodies and their futures are still too often made without them.

"We cannot legislate our way out of a problem that also lives in our homes, our classrooms and our places of worship."

In a week when world leaders gathered in New York to make commitments at United Nations General Assembly, Hon. Dr. Tecla Chebet Tum, used the launch of our mapping report, Barriers to Girls' Agency in East and Southern Africa, to point at what laws alone cannot reach.

She has seen girls leave her classroom as a teacher and helped write laws as a legislator, and she knows that reform on paper is not enough. Customary and religious norms still decide whether a girl marries at 15 or returns to school after a pregnancy.
