From youth crew member to Tennessee State Parks professional — meet SECC alum Gray. 🌿💚
Gray’s journey with SECC began in 2020 on the Summer In-Town Youth Crew, building the foundation for what would become a transformational experience. Gray returned in 2021 and 2022 as a crew member, and then stepped into leadership as an Assistant Crew Lead — growing skills and confidence along the way.
Beyond the field, Gray also served as a Communications Intern and later as a Communications Liaison, helping tell the stories of crews while continuing to serve on them.
Here’s what Gray has to say about SECC:
“I consider my time with Southeast Conservation Corps as one of the most foundational experiences of my life thus far. It’s shaped so much of who I am today and what I aspire to do. It gave me a strong work ethic, a confidence in myself, a multitude of valuable life and career skills, and many personal mentors and friends.”
Some of Gray’s favorite memories? The messy ones. 🌧️
“One of my favorite memories on the trails is getting so soaked and muddy from the rain that we had to just put down our tools, take a break, and stomp and dance in the rain and mud.”
Today, Gray continues a commitment to conservation and public lands with Tennessee State Parks — carrying forward the leadership, resilience, and joy built on SECC crew experiences.
We’re proud to highlight Gray as an SECC alum who continues to protect, steward, and celebrate the outdoors.
