Chattanooga, TN – Community Unites for “Embers of Hope” Candlelight Vigil to Honor Domestic Violence Victims and Survivors
In a moving display of unity and remembrance, Hamilton County residents will come together on Thursday, October 10th, for the "Embers of Hope" Candlelight Vigil. This special event, held from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the lawn of the Hamilton County Courthouse, will pay tribute to survivors and their families and honor victims of domestic violence homicide. The vigil offers a space for reflection and hope as the community stands together to envision a future free from domestic violence. Attendees will hear heartfelt stories from survivors, receive words of encouragement from local community leaders, and share in a moment of silence to remember those lost. This vigil is part of a broader series of events marking Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, designed to shed light on the issue, promote healing, and encourage awareness throughout Hamilton County.

“We invite the entire community to stand with us in solidarity as we create pathways to hope and safety for all,” said Regina McDevitt, Executive Director of the Chattanooga Hamilton County Family Justice Center. “By coming together, we honor those who have lost their lives and support the survivors and families who continue to navigate and heal from the trauma. Together, we can shine a light in the darkness and work towards a healthier, safer community.”

Participants are encouraged to bring blankets or items of comfort, and candles will be provided to all attendees.

Message from Pastor Jeffrey Wilson.

Everyone, this is Pastor Wilson from New United Baptist.

I have spoken with most of you already. What has come out is that as it relates to getting out the vote for this extremely important election, there are several initiatives going on in the city, but we have no coordination or structure.

I am planning a meeting for this coming Saturday at 10:00 AM at New United Baptist Church, 2629 Tunnel Blvd, Chattanooga, TN 37406 · I'm hoping that we can get as many people/ groups who are doing anything with this election to send a representative. Our goal is not to change what anyone is doing but to hopefully come together in a unified front and produce a mass " flyer" so that our community can be educated, informed and most importantly go out and vote. Hope you or someone connected with you can attend.

Also please spread the word. We don't want to leave anyone out.

I’m excited to invite you to the grand opening of Fire Station 15 on October 3rd, from 11 AM to 12 PM at 912 Shallowford Rd.

Public Notice: City of Chattanooga PRO Housing Grant

Application

The City of Chattanooga is pleased to announce that it is applying for funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) Grant Program. This program supports local efforts to remove barriers to affordable housing and expand housing options for residents across our city.

As part of the application process, the City is committed to transparency and public engagement. We invite residents to review our grant application and to provide feedback during the public comment period.

Public Comment Period:
The application will be available for public comment from Friday, September 27th 2024 to Saturday, October the 12th. During this time, we encourage community members to share their thoughts, insights, and suggestions regarding the proposed plan. Comments can be emailed to [email protected]

The City of Chattanooga’s Department of Economic Development will conduct a public meeting at Carver Community Center, 600 N Orchard K**b Avenue, on Tuesday, October 1st, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

VOTER TURNOUT FOR THE PRIMARY WAS AWFUL!

**Absentee Applications are available for November 2024

Beginning TODAY (Wednesday, August 7, 2024), we accept absentee applications for the November 5, 2024, State and Federal General Election. The deadline for absentee ballot applications is Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Ballots must be back in our office before the close of polls each Election Day to be counted. We recommend using our online tool to help complete your written request for an absentee ballot.

Complete the form on our website, print and sign it, and then email, mail, or fax it to our office. You may have a friend or relative drop off the application at our office. Alternatively, call our office at 423-209-8683 (VOTE) Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern, and we will print an absentee application and mail it to you for you to sign and return to us.

EMERGENCY CLOSURES



N Willow Street

A natural gas leak was detected on N Willow Street between E 3rd Street and E 4th Street, requiring an emergency closure of N Willow Street. Emergency responders have cleared the scene with crews from Chattanooga Gas starting repairs immediately. An estimated time of reopening is not available.

Altamont Road

A water main break has occurred on Altamont Road between Glenroy Ave and High Point Drive. Altamont Roadt is currently fully closed. Tennessee American Water is on-site to make temporary repairs. Altamont Street should reopen later this evening.
