OK, kids….here’s the deal….

The USMNT needs a draw or a win tonight against El Salvador in this final match of the group to qualify for the Concacaf Nations League semifinals and the Americans are in a fantastic position to do just that and even go on to defend their crown in the second edition of the tournament.

The Americans have one loss in 27 all-time meetings with the Central American side our boys should have expectations of coming away with a victory, if nothing else because of historical results against their upcoming opponents.

El Salvador has lost its last three matches since holding the Americans to a 1-1 draw in San Salvador back in June of last year. La Selecta has only scored once in three friendly defeats to Peru, Nicaragua and Honduras. With the firepower the US has been playing with lately, that doesn’t bode well for them. The USMNT may not blast seven goals past the El Salvador defense, as it did against Grenada, but it should cruise to a victory despite its struggles against them last time out.

Stating the obvious, I know, but the defense needs to make sure they keep El Salvador in front of them, and keep any opportunities for goals to be poached to a minimum. Keeping the defensive third clean and getting the ball out of there will help keep El Salvador honest.

The USMNT did a great job ls time out of pushing the ball forward quickly on offense and finding gaps to get balls to our scorers. Against El Salvador, expect more of the same, with lots of possession and chances in the box.

El Salvador desperately need a win to advance in the Nations League, so they’re most likely going to open things up and try to pressure the USMNT into making a mistake they can use to score. The USMNT backline has to withstand that pressure, and hopefully will be able to provide some of their own to keep El Salvador at arm’s length. If the US can score early, that’ll open it up even more for our attacking players to pour forward.

Per usual…we’ll be at TailGate Brewery on the corner of Main and Station Street! Kick off is scheduled for 7:30, Come on down!

Nations League is back, y'all!!!

While I can't be unhappy with the fact they are playing in a city called St George (and they are they named after a weird car Ford built in the 1970's?)....we are on the road to the island nation of Grenada...well...our VP Andrew Bresee is on the road in Grenada, the rest of us will be at TailGate Brewery!!
The United States is second in our group at this point, with Gold Cup qualification on the line, we need a big win here. The US is 4-0 all time versus our southern neighbors, and after a 5-0 thrashing the last time we played the Spice Boys, I'm kind of expecting more of the same. Most of the Grenada side will be domestic players, but they do have several fellows scattered around the lower leagues of the football world, especially in the English Championship and First Division.
The US is fielding a strong side, with most of our regular starters in place. We need to come out fast and intense with lots of forward pressure. Putting away early opportunities will be key to wearing down the Grenada defense. Look for lots of goals and going top of the group as we get ready for El Salvador on Monday!!

Remember... Grenada isn't just an old Ford....oh wait.....that's a Granada....my bad....

See everyone at TailGate Brewery on the corner of Main and Station St tonight at 8!!
