Preserve Chattanooga Protecting the architectural heritage of Chattanooga through preservation, education, and advocacy. in 1994. Why?

Founded in 1976 as Landmarks Chattanooga, the organization was renamed Cornerstone’s Inc. At the beginning of 2022, the board of directors took a bold step and renamed the organization one last time to Preserve Chattanooga. Because we want to effectively communicate what our organization does and who we serve. Preserve Chattanooga is the only historic preservation nonprofit serving Chattanooga and

we intend to serve it well. To honor our past, we are launching the Cornerstones Fund for preservation and adding Landmarks of Chattanooga to our programming. Preserve Chattanooga is a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the National Preservation Partners Network. We partner and collaborate with organizations throughout the community to broaden our impact. Preserve Chattanooga is a 501(c)3 nonprofit governed by a board of directors. Our mission is supported by donations, grants and the annual Wine Over Water event. Equity and inclusion for all people ensure the long-term success of our city and its neighborhoods. Preserve Chattanooga is committed to supporting and engaging diverse members of our community through preservation education, advocacy, and technical assistance.

TONIGHT - A Historic Preservation Town Hall Meeting For Chattanooga

As Chattanooga begins work on its first comprehensive Preservation Plan update since 1977, community voices are needed to help answer an important question: How should preservation support future growth, development, housing, neighborhoods, and quality of life for everyone who calls Chattanooga home?

Join City Councilmembers Dennis Clark, Cody Harvey, and Ron Elliott for a community town hall discussion on Wednesday, June 3, from 6:00–7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at 1000 Lindsay Street.

Recently, Preserve Chattanooga Executive Director Todd Morgan joined Ray Bassett on Scenic Roots to discuss the planning process and why public participation is essential to creating a vision for Chattanooga's historic places.

Why Relevancy Is Key To Historic Preservation's Future

Recently, Preserve Chattanooga Executive Director Todd Morgan joined Bonnie McDonald, President & CEO of Landmarks Illinois, for a conversation with Ray Bassett on Scenic Roots. Bonnie shared insights from The Relevancy Project and The Relevancy Guidebook, exploring how historic preservation can support economic development, housing, community identity, and quality of life.

The discussion comes at an exciting time as Chattanooga residents help shape the future of preservation in our city.

One of the grandest homes in Chattanooga in terms of architectural detail and setting, as well as history, is on the market for one of the few times in its nearly 100 years.

Built around 1927 for Coca-Cola bottler and businessman Frank Harrison Sr., the remarkable residence reflects both the prosperity and craftsmanship of early 20th-century Chattanooga. Harrison served as president of Chattanooga Glass, a company known for producing Coca-Cola bottles, while also investing in numerous other local enterprises that helped shape the city’s growth.

The home was designed by the prominent Atlanta architectural firm Pringle and Smith, led by acclaimed architect and Georgia Tech professor Francis Palmer Smith. With its exceptional architectural detailing, commanding setting, and deep connection to Chattanooga’s business and cultural history, the property stands as a rare surviving example of the city’s historic grandeur.

Historic homes like this help tell the story of Chattanooga’s evolution — and remind us why preservation matters.

At the historic former Brainerd Junior High School, students recently filled a large classroom with energy, creativity, and forward-thinking ideas as they presented academic design projects exploring the building’s future possibilities.

The excitement in the room—full of conversation, laughter, and collaboration—felt like a return to the school’s past life as a thriving neighborhood institution, while also pointing clearly toward its future. Working in partnership with Preserve Chattanooga, students in the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga Interior Architecture and Design program, under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Jessica Etheredge, developed imaginative concepts for re-envisioning the historic school through thoughtful preservation and adaptive reuse.

The project reflects both the promise of the next generation of designers and the enduring potential of Chattanooga’s historic places when creativity and preservation come together.
