We never know when neonates are going to come through our door, it's always a surprise and we need fosters on stand by to take them home! Neonate kittens can not regulate their body temperature until they are 3 weeks of age, but even then they still need a constant heat source until 6 weeks of age. Depending on their age determines how often they need to eat, this can range anywhere from every 2-3 hours to every 4-6 hours! Kittens under 4 weeks also have to be stimulated to go potty, meaning they literally can NOT go on their own without help. All of these things are why these little babies can not stay in a shelter environment over night, they absolutely would NOT survive. Kittens under 8 weeks of age are at high risk of illness due to their weak immune system, making a shelter the very last place they need to be! We need kitten fosters for all ages, from 1 day old to 7 weeks old! We will provide you with everything you need and walk you through the steps to care for them. Every year our staff takes neonate kittens into foster, giving around the clock care ON TOP of caring for their own animals AND coming to the SPCA every day to care for 60+ MORE animals. We can not save all of these lives on our own, it's just not plausible, we NEED your help!
