On December 5, 2024 Eric Akins received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award from the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, Inc., Equal Opportunity Day Breakfast. The award recognizes outstanding service by an individual or organization for demonstrated leadership and commitment to the cause of justice, social consciousness and civic involvement. Mr Atkins is co-chairperson of the Unity Group, a life member of the Chattanooga Hamilton County branch of the NAACP and political action chairman. He spear heads the annual Martin Luther King Celebration, he fights for the rights of others in every aspect of this city, whether a private or public organization. He is a lifelong member of St. Joseph AME Church. Congratulations Eric Akins.
