Hey Friends!

Wanted to let everyone know that there will be a community meeting at the Silverdale Center in the Creekside Theater about the “new” plans for the Airport Inn. The meeting will be Monday, November 25th at 6:30pm. Please try to be there if you have any questions or concerns about a homeless facility in this neighborhood.

Here is a portion of the city council meeting where they all admit they have no information about the developer or vendor and are being pushed to make a quick vote on giving them a 2.8 million dollar property and up to $10 million in bonds because they waited until the last minute to get this done. But rest assured, if they go belly up the city will get this property back.

City council has already placed this on the agenda for July 30 and haven’t even met with anyone in the community.

Please let your council people know that you still do not support permanent supportive housing at this location!

I am sure many of you are already aware, but if not, this ruling by the appeals court, gives me hope for this area. Mr. Patel won his appeal and the Conclusion states:

“The judgment of the Chancery Court is reversed. This matter is remanded to the Chancery Court for entry of an order directing City Council to approve Rama’s Corporate Application for Certificate for Liquor License. Costs on appeal are taxed to the Appellee, City of Chattanooga, Tennessee, City Council.”

So the taxpayers of Chattanooga now have had to pay for attorneys and fees for the city to fight to keep a business owner out of business because of their poorly executed plan to purchase an old dilapidated building that still sits empty years later.

UPDATE!

Thornhill withdrew their application to rezone the two other properties on Lee Hwy to UGC. it is understood that they are not moving forward with the purchase of the properties at this time. Hopefully a buyer will come along and enhance the neighborhood with a new project.

Thanks to Silverdale Neighborhood Association for all their hard work on this!

Good News : the vote on the other two properties was deferred again for 30 days by Mike Price, so hopefully this means their plan is falling apart or they believe the city may actually listen to the people who live/work/play in this area for once. Thank you to the Silverdale Neighborhood Association for working so hard on this.

So now it is being claimed that by right they could have 70 dwellings in the c2 zone based on acreage. For their presentation is states it is 2.29 acres (18 x 2.29= 41.22) the application states 3.38 acres (18 x 3.38= 60.84) so which is it? And neither equal 70! They are trying to make it seem like they can do this exact thing without the rezoning, but once again not being truthful. Also, notice how 7725 is now being presented at the city as “transitional housing” and not permanent supportive housing. Who knows what is really going to be put there!

If you would like a say in what is going in around this neighborhood, please show up June 13th to the City Council meeting. It wasn’t good enough for Brainerd Road - so why is it ok for Bonny Oaks? Who is benefitting from this - certainly not the neighborhood!

City of Chattanooga - Government why are these hotels still open?? Shut these “hot sheet motels” (as Mayor Kelly calls them) down! Let a developer have the commercial property for something other than 250sq ft apartments!

JUST IN: A woman faces charges in Chattanooga after police say she stuffed a man's body in a barrel, covered it in a blanket & left it inside a hotel room.

Here are the renderings that were shown at the Silverdale Neighborhood Association meeting for the hotel conversion. 288 sq ft studio apartments with kitchenettes. Rent would be around 1000 per month which is cheaper than what the current residents are paying, so they can definitely afford it.

This Thursday (5/11) there will be a meeting at 6pm at Silverdale Cumberland Presbyterian Church with MAP Engineering and Thornhill Management(the group prurchasing the other 2 hotels). If you would like to be a part of the discussion, please come and participate!
