What makes Chattanooga vulnerable to human trafficking?
Human trafficking affects communities across Tennessee and several factors make our region especially at risk:
šØļ»æ Trafficking Reports
Tennessee ranks 20th in the nation for reported human trafficking cases.
š Drug Crisis
In 2023, Tennessee recorded 3,985 overdose deaths. Substance use continues to be one of the leading vulnerabilities connected to trafficking.
š Highway Access
Major interstatesāincluding I-24, I-75, I-40, and I-65āintersect in and around Chattanooga, creating high-risk transit corridors for trafficking activity.
š Undocumented Immigrant Population
Roughly 6.1% of Tennesseeās population is made up of immigrants, many of whom face increased risk of exploitation due to legal and language barriers.
