Florida State Hospitals own, Chaplain Alan D. McMillan!
Today, Sheriff Morris A. Young and staff honor Pastor Alan D. McMillan for Black History Month in honor of his long standing service, leadership, and impact within Gadsden County and the State of Florida.
Pastor McMillan has faithfully served as Chaplain at Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida, for over thirty years (eleven as Chaplain) Pastor Alan D. McMillan, and notably holds the distinction of being the first African-American Chaplain hired at the facility. Throughout his tenure, he has provided spiritual counsel, crisis support, and compassionate care to patients and staff within one of the largest psychiatric institutions in the state, demonstrating both professional excellence and unwavering commitment to human dignity.
A longtime resident of Gadsden County, Pastor McMillan’s influence extends beyond the hospital grounds. As an ordained minister, author, educational advocate, and founder of Bread of Life Ministries, he has dedicated his life to strengthening families, promoting faith-based resilience, and encouraging personal growth within underserved communities. His marriage to Keika L. McMillan reflects a shared commitment to ministry, community service, and faith-centered leadership. In addition to his pastoral and chaplaincy work, Pastor McMillan is a published author and active media communicator, utilizing digital platforms, including YouTube and other social media outlets, to inspire audiences with messages of hope, spiritual empowerment, and personal development. His educational background and professional accomplishments reflect a life devoted to scholarship, mentorship, and service.
