Neighbors -
We belong to a community that cares deeply for each other and is held together by values of respect, kindness and altruism. These values have called residents of Serenbe, from the early days to today, to give back and build community in areas of education, arts, volunteerism and environmentalism. We have established important traditions like our Fourth of July parade in Selborne and our cookout and fireworks in Grange. These have long brought smiles, laughter, a sense of belonging and community that are important. We celebrate our patriotism and drive our community roots deeper. And like many things, these celebrations started small and have evolved over the years. This year, as we come together again, we feel called to honor our traditions but to do so in a thoughtful way.
In our poll, an overwhelming majority of residents have reinforced that honoring our traditions but doing so in the context of our community values is the right path and not in conflict. And so our tradition of parade, cookout and fireworks will continue with some important evolution and responsiveness to concerns raised by our caring community.
FIREWORKS: we are working with our vendor to use our pre-paid monies to purchase types and variety of fireworks that put out less noise and chemical byproducts while still providing an amazing experience. In sensitivity to our surroundings (animals and neighbors on the lake), the show will be a little shorter this year, but the Fireworks crew assures us that it will still be the stellar quality they are known for.
FIRE SAFETY: we are in discussions with the City and the Fire Department to further invest in fire safety
WATER SAFETY: we have hired a lifeguard for the event to monitor Grange Lake with the growing number of young kids in our community. We ask that parents please keep a close eye on children by the water in the dark.
CLEAN UP: we will be assembling a set of volunteers for both the evening and following morning to clean any and all debris from the fireworks themselves and from the celebration on the lawn. We would encourage anyone available and able to volunteer - especially those most concerned about the eventโs footprint.
As our traditions and community continue to grow and evolve, we at the Social Committee, Fireworks Crew and other stakeholders are committed to exploring ways to improve our events. While we had constraints this year around venue, fundraising, availability and cost of alternatives like drones - rest assured these will be given thoughtful energy and attention for 2024. We have confidence that we can continue to grow our community, create amazing memories together and live our values. While this yearโs celebration will be epic, we plan to take 2024 to another level. Stay tuned for more details about this yearโs festivities!
