Got a little but the still won't grow? Our forages need FOUR things to grow: sunlight, heat, rain, and fertilizer. Missing one? Growth will slow!

These cloudy mornings and cooler nights are slowing our grass down! Even if you fertilize and have a pivot to irrigate, you can't out manage a lack of sunlight and heat. Nothing to do but wait it out.

The main thing to remember is that honeybees are hairy and yellow jackets are smooth. Yellow jackets also have more of a defined "waist line" than honeybees do. More importantly, yellow jackets will nest in the ground and honeybees don't. Bees build hives, yellow jackets build nests. The biggest difference - Honey! Also, yellow jackets will chase you if aggravated, honeybees will not. If there's no threat to human health, leave them alone.

Congratulations to to our own Isaac Harrison on being elected to the 2026-2027 Northwest Junior Board! We are so proud! In order to help prepare for his responsibilities, Isaac is attending the Georgia 4-H Officer Training (GOT) session held at Rock Eagle 4-H Center. Today he is visiting the “Classic City” of Athens. 🍀

Do the fire ant two step: broadcast a bait insecticide at 1-1.5 lb/acre then wait several days before treating individual mounds. In theory, the colonies will then migrate outside the baited area. Any new colonies should be treated immediately.
