My name is Rachael. My efforts to help people who are homeless have been reported in local and national news. I even delivered full meals from my family kitchen.

In 2018, as part of my Bat Mitzvah preparation as a 13 year old, I organized a community project to provide care packages for people who are homeless in Los Angeles. With the help of about 60 large companies, small businesses and nonprofit organizations, I exceeded my goal of assembling over 100 care packages throughout many parts of Los Angeles. I am super excited to be in the process of assembling 500 care packages and look forward to helping more people who are facing homelessness in Los Angeles. Here's the Back Story of Bundles of Kindness:

According to the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, in 2020 there were 66,436 people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles County. Over the last several years in my day-to-day life, I have witness homeless men, women, children and families battle homelessness. Because I believe that everyone deserves to have their basic needs met, I was compelled to personally do something to make a difference. When I was younger, I made many small efforts to help by giving snacks to people in need whenever my family and I were in the car. I also volunteered to make sandwiches with interfaith efforts to feed people who were hungry. This was all great, but I felt the need to do something more substantial. Boom! Bundles of Kindness was born! Thank you to all of the corporate and individual donors who are helping me help others!

We are grateful for our ongoing collaboration with the West Valley Food Pantry and its dedicated staff, who provide a welcoming location and help make our regular distributions possible.

During our latest distribution, we supported 25 people experiencing homelessness with clothing, socks, underwear, cosmetics, shoes, and pet supplies. These essentials offer comfort, dignity, and a reminder that no human or pet is forgotten.

What does a new pair of shoes mean to a child experiencing homelessness?

Sometimes, it means walking into school without worrying about shoes that hurt, pinch, or no longer fit.

For 26 LAUSD elementary students, it meant receiving a brand new pair of shoes intended just for them, along with a fresh pair of socks.

For many of us, a properly fitting pair of shoes is something we rarely think twice about. But for a child experiencing homelessness, it can make a meaningful difference in how they feel walking into the classroom and preparing to learn.

26 children.
26 reminders that kindness can meet someone exactly where they are.

The kids at Lassen Street Elementary School join Bundles of Kindness in thanking Big Sunday for helping them begin the new school year with backpacks filled with essential school supplies!

Every child deserves to start the school year with the basic necessities they need in order to learn, grow, and feel prepared, especially children who are experiencing homelessness.

Because of generous community partners like Big Sunday, these students can walk into the classroom with backpacks filled with supplies and the confidence that their community cares about them.

A huge shoutout to Hanes for supporting Bundles of Kindness with an incredible donation of socks, underwear, bras, T-shirts, and hoodies!

These may be basic necessities, but for someone experiencing homelessness, having clean, essential clothing can provide something incredibly important: dignity, comfort, and a sense of being cared for.

Some of these generous donations will be distributed at an upcoming outreach event, helping individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Others will go directly to school-aged children experiencing homelessness through partnerships with LAUSD schools.

We are so grateful to Hanes for helping us make sure people in our community have access to essentials they need and deserve.

What happens when a child doesn’t have the clothing or supplies they need in order to feel ready for school?

We’re so excited to be getting backpacks and clothing to students at Canoga Park Elementary School who are unhoused.

A huge thank you to Big Sunday for providing backpacks filled with school supplies! These backpacks, along with clothing from Bundles of Kindness, are helping provide students with some of the basic necessities they need to start the school year with confidence.

With the support of Project ReWear, Canoga Park Elementary School will receive a monthly donation of clothing for students who are unhoused.

When kids don’t feel properly dressed, they may feel embarrassed or uncomfortable and may choose not to attend school. Having access to clothing that fits and makes them feel comfortable can remove one more barrier to education.

A New Collection Spot for Lois’ Paw Packs!

We’re super excited to announce that Fancy Fur Dog Grooming is hosting a collection for Lois’ Paw Packs, helping Bundles of Kindness provide essential supplies to pets living with their owners who are unhoused.

Lois’ Paw Packs were created in memory of my beloved fur baby, Lois. Lois used to get her fur cuts at Fancy Fur, so having them help us continue her legacy of kindness to pets makes this collection especially meaningful.

Bundles of Kindness was happy to recently share clothing, socks, shoes, underwear, bras, menstrual products, cosmetics, blankets, and dog food at the Homeless Connect Day sponsored by LA Family Housing.

We watched people light up, one after another, when they discovered the perfect dress, a pair of pants, a T shirt, or clothing they could wear to an interview. These moments may seem simple, but having the opportunity to choose something that makes you feel confident and cared for can mean so much.

One of the most memorable moments was watching two sisters discover that we had girls’ dresses. The excitement on their faces was priceless, and it was a beautiful reminder of just how meaningful these simple moments can be.

Days like this remind us why access to basic necessities and the dignity of being able to choose what you need matters so much.

A huge thank you to our amazing volunteers who helped make the day possible, and to Project ReWear for contributing clothing and shoes that allowed us to offer even more to those in need.

Getting ready for tomorrow’s Homeless Connect Day with LA Family Housing in Santa Clarita!

Bundles of Kindness will be there offering essential items to individuals and families who need a helping hand with:

• Pet supplies

A special thank you to Project Rewear for contributing much of the clothing that will be available at the event! We are so grateful for their support and generosity.

Additional services will be available include housing, legal, and medical assistance, as well as haircuts!
