Bryson's Sunshine Foundation

Bryson's Sunshine Foundation All donations to us are tax deductible. Bryson was diagnosed with leukemia at the age of eleven during my freshman year of high school.

We are a 501c(3) non-profit with the purpose to brighten the lives of pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their families while raising childhood cancer awareness and helping to find cures. Bryson “My Brave Little Brother”
Inspired by Bryson, my younger brother, Bryson’s Sunshine Foundation, a nonprofit organization, aims to mirror the same generosity and kindness he exemplified throughout hi

s life. He endured several rounds of chemotherapy, one bone marrow transplant, and one stem cell transplant. Although we devastatingly lost him after nearly a year of fierce fight, the impact he had on the people around him is far from gone. Bryson’s generosity was simply remarkable, and he truly had a heart of gold. During his treatment at Children’s Hospital of Orange County, Bryson was rewarded with a gift card for walking the most laps on the oncology ward. Instead of buying himself something as most kids his age would, Bryson purchased a pair of fuzzy slippers from the hospital gift shop for me. Not only did this reveal his maturity, but it also demonstrated one of many examples that Bryson put others before himself. No matter how ill he felt, he always kept a smile on his face and continued fighting. When asked whether he was angry towards his diagnosis, Bryson replied, “One in so many children get cancer, so if I got it, then someone else would not have gotten it.” The fact that he could bring light to the unfairly challenging situation and put others’ wellbeing before his own even during such a devastating time truly showed his positive, loving and selfless nature. He never let anything bring him down. Until his passing, Bryson exemplified an unwavering resilience, courage and generosity, unparalleled by anyone else I have ever met. Besides the exceptional personality and kindness Bryson possessed, he was a fun boy with numerous hobbies. He could often be found buried in a nonfiction book, memorizing fact after fact which he would later share at the dinner table. Bryson also enjoyed playing saxophone and searching up Imagine Dragons songs to listen to while doing homework. During other leisure time, he was likely building Legos or playing on-line video games with his friends, especially Fortnite and Overwatch. Before his diagnosis, Bryson was a bright, vibrant middle school student with a smile that could light up the room. During his treatment, Bryson was a warrior who fought with tremendous bravery and never gave up. After his passing, Bryson became a beloved angel with an impact that would last forever. My brother often spoke about helping children who face the same struggles he did. It is my hope that this nonprofit will accomplish what he did not have the chance to. His exemplary attributes will forever live on through the mission of this foundation: To brighten the lives of pediatric cancer patients, survivors, and their families while raising childhood cancer awareness and helping to find cures.

We wanted to shoutout our chapter at University of Florida for a successful year!! They did such a wonderful job this year and hosted several fundraisers and events, such as writing cards for Letters of Love and bringing holiday goodies to pedatric patients at UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital. They also have been running a virtual art series where volunteers guide pediatric cancer patients, siblings, and survivors through various drawings! Happy May! May is National Cancer Research Month! Despite cancer being the second most common cause of death among children ages 1 to 14, only around 4% of national cancer research funding goes towards childhood cancer. Therefore, it is especially important that we continue to advocate for research funding through staying on top of new legislation, reaching out to local representatives, and raising awareness in our communities!! 🎗️

Mikayla was born on 8/11/23. After bringing her home, her family noticed something always seemed off. There were times she was inconsolable, and at 4 months old, she had fevers, swollen lymph nodes, and poor appetite. Then, at 5 months, doctors stated she was colic, and by 6 months, she was back at the hospital with respiratory failure, extreme weight loss, and rhinovirus. Within three days of this hospitalization, she was intubated and doctors in the PICU decided they needed to run more tests to figure out why she was getting so sick. Mikayla then received the diagnosis of leukemia.

It took another two weeks to figure out that she had AML specifically, and she stayed in the PICU for 48 days before moving to the hemonc floor of the hospital. Mikayla ended up reaching remission on 5/29/24 and underwent chemotherapy until her bone marrow transplant on 8/6/24. On 10/02/2024, she rang the bell!

However, due to complications and various infections, she ended up in and out of the hospital until April 2025. Her port was finally removed on July 10th, 2025. Since then, she has been getting caught up on her vaccines! She is thriving and growing and currently working on weaning off her G-Tube so that can be removed next!

National Young Adult and Adolescent Cancer Awareness Week takes place every year during the first full week of April, and this year, it will be April 6th through 10th. This week serves as an opportunity to shine a light on the unique challenges teenagers and young adults face when diagnosed with cancer. Thyroid cancer, Hodgkin/Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and brain and central nervous system tumors are the most commonly diagnosed cancers between the ages of 15-19. In addition, 5% of all cancer diagnoses in the U.S. take place between the ages of 15 and 39.

We would like to introduce our January Warrior of the Month:

AIYLA

Last August, while on a family trip to San Francisco, Aiyla’s mom noticed something unusual while bathing her 5 year old daughter, Aiyla (aka Bean). Her eye drifted upward, and it did not seem right. They called an eye doctor, and he told them they needed to take her in right away. They went to urgent care and were sent to UCSF, where a scan revealed a tumor in Aiyla’s brainstem. They later returned home to Colorado.

On September 3rd, Aiyla had a craniotomy so doctors could get a diagnosis. She was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor, astroblastoma MN1 fusion.

They were then recommended proton radiation therapy and traveled to Philadelphia for treatment. After seven weeks, Bean finished proton on December 3rd and rang the bell.

Through everything, Bean has remained joyful, resilient, and full of light. She has not lost her sparkle.
