ABOUT US:
Sylinda Hughes passed on Wednesday, January 13th, from ovarian cancer.
She will always be remembered as a loving Mother and Grandmother whose greatest passion in life was simply helping others. Sylinda went through some hard times in her life, but she was a fighter who never lost her passion for giving. Her heart was so large and that's what you think of when you think of Sylinda. Whether it was helping kids less fortunate, single mother's struggling, or the homeless. Her biggest love in life, besides her 3 beautiful grandchildren, was also helping innocent animals. Often taking in as many as she could.
She passed yesterday after a short battle with stage 4 cancer that was just diagnosed in October. To honor her memory her son, Alex Ridley, wants to continue her passion in the best way he knows how. Thus the "Sylinda Hughes Helping Heart of Gold" scholarship and charity has been formed.
If we can raise enough money in her honor, it will be a two part charity.
First being a $1,000 yearly scholarship to be awarded to no less than one local high school senior who displays a selfless act and radiates a "Heart of Gold" during their last year of high school. Our hope is to encourage students to get involved in their local community because no effort is too small when it comes to helping others.
The second part of the charity will be designated to simply helping others. Whether that is helping a single Mother with school supplies, clothes, rent, utility bills, or transportation. Or it may be used to rescue and foster animals, find their "forever homes", cover vaccinations and/or vet bills when needed. We hope to also reach out to the homeless community.
Sylinda impacted so many other peoples lives for the better in her short 55 years and she did so without recognition and for no reason other than to help the person or the animal involved. Born from a heart for humanity, our goal is to give selflessly in a way that honors Sylinda and her giving nature.
If you are willing to give to this charity/scholarship, or if you grew up with a single mom and you know firsthand the struggle or if you want to see local students, single parents, abandoned animals, and our homeless helped then we ask that you please donate any amount you can so the helping hand reaching out in our community is in memory of Sylinda's "heart of gold".
