Shout-Out to Aqualogic's Dive Team. Aqualogic’s team of four divers worked the week of July 20th to check and harvest Eurasian milfoil beds in the Upper Narrows and the inlet area of the Lower Lake. With little milfoil to be found, the team was able to extend their work along the North shore of the Upper Lake and further south into the Narrows. Aqualogic, the Chestertown-based dive contractor, recruits divers nationwide from college students who are SCUBA-certified and are studying in a related field such as environmental science. Then they are trained in harvesting techniques. This year’s team (left to right) included Nathan Dusek, Biology Major with a minor in Environmental Studies at the University of Cincinnati, entering junior year; Evie Starks, Major in Sustainability and Environmental Studies at Dennison University, entering junior year; Alexis Lea, team leader and 2025 graduate in Coastal Environmental Science from Louisiana State University who will be starting an internship this fall at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota Florida working on coral reef gene banks; and Nick Garee, Biology major at the University of Cincinnati, entering junior year. This was the second year of diving on for Alexis and others were first year divers. Thank you to the divers for their work and thanks to Aqualogic for helping to provide a workforce to meet the critical need for aquatic invasives control!

Townwide Property Revaluation

Bellmont, NY — July 23, 2026 — The Town of Bellmont is conducting a town-wide property revaluation, which will begin in the Chateaugay Lake region on or around September 14, 2026. The project is being conducted to ensure that all properties are assessed fairly and equitably, reflecting current market conditions and maintaining compliance with New York State assessment standards. The revaluation process is a routine and important part of maintaining an equitable property tax system. Over time, changes in the real estate market can cause assessed values to become inconsistent with actual market values. A town-wide revaluation helps ensure that each property owner pays only their fair share of the overall tax levy based on the property's market value.

The Town has retained a data collector, Sandi Riley, to assist the Assessor with the project. Ms. Riley will begin collecting and verifying property data throughout the community. This work may include exterior property inspections, measurements, and photographs. In some cases, property owners may be contacted to schedule an interior inspection if additional information is needed. Ms. Riley will carry identification and will be clearly identifiable while conducting inspections. Residents are encouraged to cooperate with the inspection process, as accurate property information helps ensure fair and accurate assessments.

It is important for residents to understand that a revaluation does not automatically increase property taxes. The revaluation updates property values so they more accurately reflect current market conditions. Property taxes are determined by the budgets established by local taxing jurisdictions and the distribution of those taxes among property owners.

Property owners will also have opportunities to review their new assessments and ask questions before the final assessment roll is completed.

"We are committed to conducting this revaluation transparently and professionally," said Town Supervisor Sara Titus. "Our goal is to ensure fairness and accuracy for every property owner in our community. We encourage residents to stay informed and reach out with any questions during the process."

The numbers are in and are AMAZING! 26 adults, 3 babies for a total of 29 counted this morning, a record for our lakes!
