Our small rural community has many traditions and one of those traditions is supporting
each other. Lots of dedicated people work together each holiday season to ensure that
the true meaning of Christmas comes through. The Chateaugay community helps to
support local families by sharing food and toys through the Community Christmas
Basket Program. Planning and preparation start in the summer to ensure a successful
season and volunteers gather to put together letters for families as well as letters
requesting donations to support the annual effort. Every church and business in our
community works to collect toys and funds to ensure that every family who needs
support gets a basket of Christmas love from our town. Volunteers collect and sort toys,
wrap boxes and fill them with enough food for a Christmas dinner. More volunteers sort
the food and then help to disperse the baskets to families.
The program is completely funded by donations of toys, time and money from our local
community. This year the program provided for one hundred and ninety nine people by
creating Sixty-three food baskets. We want to thank all of the local businesses and
Churches for their contributions, including: Alix’s True-Value, The American Legion, The
American Legion Auxiliary, Arnie’s Rubbish Removal, The Brainardsville Methodist
Church, The Catholic Community of Burke & Chateaugay, The Chateaugay Funeral
Home, The Chateaugay Presbyterian Church, The Chateaugay Revitalization
Committee, The Chateaugay Rotary Club, The Chateaugay United Methodist Church,
The Chateaugay Community Bank, Davis Printing, The Dollar General, The Family
Dollar, Helm’s Trucking and Salvage, Lavigne’s IGA, Mallette’s Hy-View Acres, North
Franklin Veterinary Services, & Stewart’s Shop, Wendy’s Quick Stop We also want to
thank the many individuals who donated their time, toys and money to ensure that we
could send this message of love to our local families.
If you bought a tag at the local IGA, sent a toy to school/church or sent a cash donation,
we want you to know that your efforts made a difference. If you are interested in being
part of the effort, as a volunteer or a donor, we would love to have you find us on

your love and kindness!
