🇺🇸 Flags and Honor had an amazing time serving dinner at the Veterans Hunt in Chaska last week - one of our favorite annual events of the year. Our team spent the day prepping and smoking ribs, chicken, cheesy potatoes, baked beans and paired them all with rolls and several flavors of pies. The best part? Seeing veterans enjoy the meal, share stories, and even take leftovers home. The weather was perfect as always, the camaraderie was strong, and it reminded us why we do what we do: to give back to those who’ve given so much.

🇺🇸In Honor of Patriot Day: A Tribute to Those Lost on 9/11🇺🇸

Today, we stand in solemn remembrance of September 11, 2001 - a day that forever changed our nation.

We remember & honor the nearly 3,000 innocent lives lost in the Twin Towers, the Pentagon, and aboard Flights 11, 175, 77, and 93. Mothers, fathers, sons, daughters - ordinary people caught in extraordinary tragedy. Their names are etched in stone, but their stories live on in the hearts of a grateful nation.

In the face of unimaginable horror, America’s defenders rose - not just in uniform, but in spirit. From the ashes of Ground Zero to the front lines overseas, a generation of warriors answered the call. They deployed to distant lands, stood watch at home, and carried the weight of freedom on their shoulders.

Patriot Day is not just a date - it’s a promise. A promise to never forget. A promise to uphold the values they died defending. A promise to serve, protect, and preserve the liberty they cherished.

To those too young to remember the fear, the silence, and the unity of that day - know this: for many, today is heavy. It carries memories of loss, sacrifice, and resilience.

Let us walk gently. Proceed with compassion. Listen. Reflect. Remember.

August 14 – Navajo Code Talkers Day

🪶 Honoring the Legacy of the Navajo Code Talkers 🪶

Today we pause to honor the extraordinary bravery and ingenuity of the Navajo Code Talkers, whose contributions were vital to the Allied victory in World War II.

During World War II, more than 400 Native American Marines played a pivotal role in secure military communications by using a secret code based on the Navajo language—a code that was never deciphered by enemy forces. The original 29 Navajo Marines developed this ingenious system, but they weren’t alone. Code Talkers from at least 14 other tribes and nations—including the Cherokee, Choctaw, Hopi, and Comanche—used this code to ensure that critical messages could be transmitted swiftly and securely across the battlefield.

The code was first used in 1942 during the Battle of Guadalcanal and proved essential in major battles such as Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Okinawa.

🗣️ “Our language was our weapon, and it helped win the war.” — Chester Nez, Original Code Talker

At the time, the Navajo language was unwritten and known to few outside the tribe, making it a powerful tool for secure military communication. The code remained classified until 1968, and many Code Talkers received recognition only decades later.

Established in 1982 by then President Ronald Reagan, Navajo Code Talkers Day is a time to reflect on their courage, celebrate their cultural heritage, and ensure their legacy lives on.

📜 We remember. We honor. We thank you.

How many people does it take to run the Flags and Honor Car & Craft Show?
It takes a village—and then some!

💪 Behind the scenes, dozens of dedicated volunteer members work tirelessly to make this event happen. From arranging, promoting, and fundraising to setting up tents, tables, and the kitchen… they do it all!

🚗 They register cars, MC the event, grill, boil and shuck corn, park cars, sell food, beverages, and shirts, tally votes, hand out trophies, tear down, collect garbage, and send off the cars at the end of the day.

🙌 And it’s not just members—many non-members step up to help too. This event is truly a community effort.

❤️ Thank you to everyone who makes the Flags and Honor Car & Craft Show a success year after year!
