Reminder: In March, Superintendent Brenner and the Bay Path School Committee walked out of negotiations. 164 days later, they still refuse to return to bargaining.

Tomorrow, Bay Path educators return to school-without a contract.

To give full context to the BP admin’s public post yesterday regarding the removal of classroom printers and textbooks:

We now have at least three history teachers whose classroom sets of textbooks were removed this summer without notice, after the History Department was told they would have this school year to transition their assignments and materials. All the admin needs to do to help the history teachers is give the textbooks back.

Classroom printers were removed as a “cost saving” measure, despite the hugely negative impact on our classrooms. But now with 3 August resignations, there’s room in the budget, and nothing student facing is being returned- not a Media Center, not a Title I Reading Specialist, and not even a fleet of working printers to help teachers with day-to-day tasks as we teach our kids.

Words are cheap, but it helps to keep the receipts:

Again, documenting for when the comment is deleted. Bay Path is NOT fully staffed. Every single academic department has lost at least one full time teaching position, either from the “budget” cuts that happened at the end of last year or from staff are retiring and will not be replaced. Special ed has been hit especially hard.

With the three resignations mentioned in BPTA President McNamara’s comment alone, there is roughly 300k now in the budget that could be used to restore some of these positions. However, when President McNamara reached out over the summer regarding these resignations this summer, Superintendent Brenner made it clear the money would not be spent to rehire these staff/fill these vacant positions.

As always, Bay Path teachers will do our best, with less staff, more kids, and no contract.

Documenting for when admins inevitably delete the comment- saving face means nothing when you don’t support your educators and paraprofessionals. Fair contracts NOW 💪🏼 🍎

If students like Mrs. Tod’s grandson understand the impact no contract has on his teachers, why don’t the adults on the School Committee share his concern?

Two weeks before Bay Path teachers return to work. Speak out for your educators, sign our petition, email your SC reps- let Bay Path leadership know it’s time to follow the kids and their families who know their teachers deserve better than this 💜 💛

Thank you, Mrs. Tod, for speaking up!
