Our third annual Craft Supply Swap will be on Saturday, Sept. 12! We'll start collecting materials on Monday, August 24.
From August 24-September 11 we will be collecting arts and crafts materials only (fabrics, yarn, paper, patterns, tools, beads, etc.) We will NOT accept office supply donations (binders, file organizers, etc.) items must be able to be reused (new or gently used, not expired.) When in doubt, use the best friend rule – would I give this to my best friend? We cannot accept opened liquids such as paints, chemicals and glue.

Items should be brought to the circulation desk in the adult area. PLEASE do not put items in the outside material returns or leave them outside the Library.

Our very popular Craft Supply Swap will be back on Saturday, September 12 from 10 am - 2 pm. Everyone is welcome to come and take materials regardless of whether they donated any.

If you clean roadsides as you walk, please remember that Ted's Package Store will soon be collecting NIPS. If you want any strong plastic bags with drawstrings to collect or store them with please let us know in the comments. They will also be available at our table at the Blueberry Festival July 26th.

Charlton residents, are you aware that you are eligible to use the Spencer Transfer Station as a way to discard your recyclables, trash, grass and leaves and other items such as mattresses ($35 per piece) and tires ($10- $150 for large equipment) and many others for a fee?

July is the perfect month to submit your application at https://www.spencerma.gov/1203/Transfer-Station The fee for a year is $75. Specific trash bags can be purchased at Big Y, Price Rite or Klem's in Spencer. One roll of large and one small cost $22.75. Please ask any questions in the comments

Ted's Package Store will be installing NIPS receptacles at all of their locations. Whenever the bin is filled, Ted's will generously donate to fund planters for the town of Charlton. Please save all NIP containers collected during your roadside clean-ups to cash in once installed. More details to follow!

We are looking for tinkerers, handymen, and helpful fixers of things for Charlton's first-ever Repair Event, Saturday, October 24, 2026, at the Charlton Public Library in Dexter Hall. Whatever you may be able to help keep OUT of our landfills would be appreciated.

Additionally, IF you need help fixing something that's considered repairable, we'd LOVE to have you let us know so we can see if the Charlton Community can help you.

Looking forward to seeing posts of how we can come together as a community to fix small repairs and make lasting impact!

A mound of an estimated 5,000 NIPS ONLY and about 1,000 bagged beer cans, bottles, wine and hard liquor pints and liters. This ONLY includes those containers from our more than one hundred roadside cleaners aware or able to separate alcohol from "Other Litter" or debris. Susan Chanel shared her concerns that Charlton roads get "TRASHED" and fears for our safety traveling roads where these containers are discarded from vehicles on our public roadways. The Earth Day Committee agreed to take a “shot” and have clear plastic trash bags distributed along with our other cleaning supplies. The Keep Charlton Beautiful Committee agreed to buy the bags, and Susan and her granddaughter handed them out. The effort was well received. Let’s be clear. Alcohol containers on Charlton roadways are unsafe, unattractive, and definitely unacceptable. Let’s NIP this behavior.
