Therapeutic Adventures recently had the honor and pleasure to provide a Leadership Development and Teaming Building program for the for 30+ young blind, vision impaired high school and college aged students from across the Commonwealth of Virginia. These rising professionals were participating in a weeklong Virginia Department for Blind and Vision Impaired (DBVI) Cybersecurity Camp in Richmond, VA. Throughout the program we observed positive changes in teamwork, communication skills, trust, creativity, problem solving, self-confidence, and of course fun and laughter.

We are grateful when our TA Adaptive Guides, Volunteers, Adaptive Athletes, Families, and Friends show us some love by sending us pictures wearing our cool TA logo gear.

Mark started the day catching a big stingray.

He & Teresa took turns and each caught two nice Bulls — Red Fish.

Teresa also caught a nice little bonnet head shark.

Mark also hooked in on another red fish that a 7’ shark chomped and ate half of the red fish while it was being reeled in. The shark then broke off the hook and line.

On Friday, May 8, 2026 Therapeutic Adventures (TA) in partnership with our friends from the Thomas Jefferson Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TJTU) provided a great day of adaptive fly-fishing for the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA), Richmond Chapter.

Our volunteer ADAPTIVE GUIDES provided quality instruction at our home waters — Moormans River Trout Management Area (MRTMA). Countless Rainbow Trout were caught and released at this flies only, special regulations area. In addition to all the learning and cheers of joy, our BLINDED VETERANS and ADAPTIVE GUIDES shared a nice stream-side lunch together.

Seven volunteers provided 67 hours of service. Thank you to all our Bug Slinger™️ Warriors from BVA-Richmond Chapter and our incredible TA ADAPTIVE GUIDES affiliated with TJTU.

April 28th we celebrated National Adaptive Sport Day. 💪🏻🦿🦾👩🏻‍🦯🧑🏽‍🦯👨🏻‍🦽👨🏼‍🦼🦯⛷️🏂🚴‍♀️🚵‍♂️🛶♿️🇺🇸

All across the nation we celebrate disability sport, we advocate for inclusion, and we promote universal access to movement, recreational and competitive sport.

April 28th also marks the historical anniversary of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. This landmark civil rights legislation, in part, barred discrimination against people with disabilities in federally funded programs, including sports and recreation.

Therapeutic Adventures, Inc.(TA) a non-profit 501 (c)(3) has been providing services for 45+ years and is proud to provide ALL our adaptive sports and adventures—instructional programs, special camps, and therapeutic retreats at NO COST to our adaptive athletes and guests.

TA has experience providing many traditional individual and team sports, but now focuses on alpine & nordic skiing, snowboarding, sled hockey, climbing, cycling and hand-cycling, fly fishing (fresh water & salt water), canoeing and kayaking,

to be the beneficiary of the annual Run the Valley - Park to Park 1/2 Marathon.

We are pleased to report that ALL of our program services for veterans with disabilities, children and adults with disabilities, as well as those who live with complex medical diagnoses, and rare genetic disorders are provided at NO COST to them.

For 45+ years, Therapeutic Adventures has been blessed to safely serve thousands of persons of ALL ages and abilities who put their faith, confidence, and trust in us.

On Earth Day (4/22/26) and everyday, we must practice eco-stewardship. It’s important to be good stewards—managing, protecting, and taking care of the world around us. If we don’t do our part as guardians to oversee the environments where we live, work, and play then the problems of apathy will escalate out of control.

No. 2 — SPRING FLY FLING for Women Cancer Survivors

The idea of fly fishing has always been intriguing to me (in fact, if I had made a
“bucket list,” it would have been on it). But I never dreamed I would actually be
standing by stream with a splashing trout on my fishing line. It was a thrill I will
never forget!

Many times things we imagine to be special turn out to be a disappointment – not
the experience at the retreat. It was every bit and more exciting than I imagined.
Interesting enough I’ve always wanted to lean how to tie flies as well.

Although the activities were the highlight of the weekend, the generosity and
inspiration of all you who volunteered to make the weekend possible will never be forgotten or underestimated. You all made the “perfect weekend” (and I don’t say
that lightly.)

Thank you for putting together the wonderful Fly Fishing weekend. I really enjoyed everything about the weekend - the music, fishing, being outside, the camp, massages, the falconry lesson, great food and best of all, my time with the other women and volunteers. You have an incredible team of volunteers who really made me feel cared for, and I know the other women felt the same. I can tell you love your work and you are a real gift to those you serve. You certainly extend the love of Christ to every life you touch. I pray the Lord blesses you abundantly just as you have blessed so many people through Therapeutic Adventures.
