“Think before you make a move.” 🎥

We are cheering on former International Neighbors staff member Gentry Faith Wilson’s documentary film “Raised”. RAISED is an exploration of how people cope with lifelong displacement in the face of a growing aid gap. The film is a deeply human story of the pursuit of purpose, the reclamation of dreams, and creative initiatives of hope that rise from within displaced communities—all through chess.

We are thrilled to support the film and its global premiere at the Chelsea Film Festival on October 18th!

Follow the film and the impactful work behind it RAISED.

If you want to make a local impact this fall, please consider becoming an International Neighbors volunteer! We are hosting Volunteer Information Session THIS Thursday, October 1st, on Zoom. Participants will learn more about the mission and vision of International Neighbors and how they can partner with us in specific volunteer roles. There will be plenty of time for questions as well.

This fall, we are recruiting volunteers to be Great Neighbor Guides (our signature 1:1 matching program with a newcomer family), and for our transportation and grocery delivery teams. All opportunities will put volunteers & their families in direct proximity to the newcomers we serve, offering a mutually beneficial relationship for everyone involved!

Sign up below for an information & training session at the link in bio!

Most of the newcomers we meet are trauma survivors. It’s no surprise when the definition of a refugee is “a person who has been forced to flee their home country because of war, violence, conflict, or a well-founded fear of persecution.” That’s why our monthly support group (and in-home welcome visits) often include activities to help the nervous system reestablish safety. Things like flower arranging, chair yoga and art projects may seem insignificant, but they help our newcomers settle back into their bodies and notice what is beautiful around them.

After a summertime pause, our women’s support group co-hort will be meeting again next week joined by our partners The Women's Initiative, StepForward and volunteers from United Way of Greater Cville Day of Caring! We can’t wait to be with this special group again, resourcing them with the skills (and relationships!) they need to thrive. 🫶
