Thank you to the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation for awarding the 500-Year Forest Foundation a grant to support our Walks in the Woods program. This funding helps us continue offering guided walks in Lynchburg and surrounding areas. These experiences educate participants about the importance and complexity of forest ecosystems, including the remnants of old-growth forests found throughout the region. We are grateful for the Greater Lynchburg Community Foundation’s investment in environmental education and opportunities for people to connect with nature.

We are excited to share that the 500-Year Forest Foundation has received a grant award from The Bama Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band at CACF to support our forest research efforts.

This funding will help provide critical support for our Forest Coordinator, Randolph College summer interns, field equipment, and travel needed to conduct research in our forests across Albemarle, Greene, and Nelson Counties. Through forest inventories, invasive species management, and carbon sequestration research, our team continues to learn more about these unique landscapes and the best ways to protect them for generations to come.

We are grateful to The Bama Works Fund of the Dave Matthews Band at CACF for supporting this important work and investing in the stewardship of Virginia’s forests.

We are excited to share some wonderful updates at the 500-Year Forest Foundation! Gillian Grant has joined the Foundation as our new Executive Director, bringing more than 15 years of nonprofit leadership experience, along with expertise in fundraising, strategic communications, and organizational development. We are also pleased to welcome Jeannie Plybon as Operations Coordinator, supporting the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the Foundation’s operations. We look forward to this exciting new chapter and continuing our work to preserve and steward these special forests for generations to come.
