Capes for Courage-Virginia

Capes for Courage-Virginia Capes 4 Courage here in Virginia donates lovingly hand-made custom capes to the seriously ill and injured children in and around Virginia. HOW CAN YOU HELP?

1.

We supply the Ronald McDonald House, Children’s Cancer Center, UVa Hospital, ER, Surgery, Pediatrics Department , We are a volunteer group who make Capes for Courage for the children battling illness in Virginia's Children's Hospitals and Ronald MacDonald Houses. Our hope is that they will feel as courageous and brave as their favorite super hero when dealing with the serious medical unknowns thei

r bodies are being challenged with. History:
In 2006, our founding member was faced with a cancer diagnosis as a young adult and new mother. Needing to tap into her inner Super Hero, she donned a cape whenever she entered the hospital for treatment. In this way, she was able to put on her bravest face and fight the most terrifying, critical battle of her life. Facing the diagnosis of a life-threatening illness is a scary experience. Happy New Year! I hope everyone is healthy and chipper in your worlds.

Despite COVID... We continue to make capes for the sick and injured children in Virginia. It can’t keep us from putting a smile on some frightened young faces! Here are some that were made by Ms. Jennifer and modeled by some handsome gentlemen ... and an elephant 😂. Thank you Jennifer, for taking the time to help us keep donating to the kids! Your sewing skills are excellent and these capes will let several imaginations fly high for a long, happy time.

If anyone is interested in sewing some cape kits for us, just give me a shout, and I’ll mail or deliver them to you. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and you can easily see that you are making a big difference in our young-at-heart community!

My best to you all. Stay healthy, happy, and be smart.
Cheers,
Janet

Hi one and all! For the past 6 months, we have been very busy making hundreds of masks for young and old, professional and family, friends and new friends! It’s been a meaningful journey, one which I wish had never happened, but it did, and we jumped in with gusto to help keep people safe. We are grateful for all the donations made that have helped keep us going this year. You have been generous not only with monetary gifts, but with kind words as well. Your kindness is has shone through these difficult days.
I’d also like to thank the many seamstresses who donated literally months of their time in sewing masks for us to distribute to the local community. They never complained when yet another order came in, needing the masks ‘yesterday ‘. My ladies, I am humbled by your dedication, professionalism and stamina! Take a rest, you deserve it!

We are now making far fewer masks and have switched gears back to making capes, burp cloths and totes for the sick and injured little ones and their families. To be honest, this is a happier place to be. It looks like I will be allowed back in the hospital soon to deliver capes once again. Then, I’ll be making more to keep plenty on hand. If anyone feels they can help, give me a shout and I’ll happily send you some kits.

Thanks again for all your support! Stay well, be smart and kind to all.
Janet

A BIG shout of thanks to Ms. Patricia! Just look at all the capes, children’s masks, and supplies she sent. We all have had to deal with change this year, but Patricia has also had her own challenges going on, and yet, still finds time to give to the C4C children. We will get these distributed ASAP Patricia, and I hope you feel the love and smiles you’ve created! Take care, and again, many thanks!

Though we are making masks by the dozens, we haven’t forgotten the children! Thank you Ms. Jennifer for such beautifully made capes! I just received these gems and we will distribute them as quickly as possible. We also received some masks from Jennifer, but they have been donated already... and missed the photo shoot 😁 Thanks for caring about your community during these tough times! Stay well, all!

C4C sewers and others have switched gears from making capes to making masks. Here is just a small sample of masks available. Different styles, colors, double and triple filters, pleated or fitted, wire on the bridge of the nose, or not. We are passing these out to all who need them. Great job everyone! When we all unite, we are a formidable force that GETS THINGS DONE!
Stay safe, take care of all those in your world and heart. And be smart!

Looks like we are going to be very busy...just look at all these awesome pieces of fabric DONATED by some truly loving people. They dropped off all this love at the Ronald McDonald House for us to make more capes, and we will do just that! It’s people like this that keep us forever moving forward in supplying more capes to the little sick and injured children in Virginia. What an honor. Many thanks to those anonymous donors!

Happy New Year my friends! I have some wonderful news! The last day of school before vacation, I was invited to Nathanael Greene Elementary School to meet the Grinch and thank all the students for their month-long fundraiser for Capes 4 Courage! I was so touched meeting the children, and the Grinch was, ...well, The Grinch. 😌
The children more than doubled their goal and were so excited to learn their efforts raised enough money for me to make 100 capes! That’s right, 100 sick children will be receiving a cape this year, all because of them! I can’t thank Ms. Kim and Ms. Linda enough for pulling off such a successful event...and right before vacation yet.
So grateful for the kindness, energy, and love in so many young hearts, helping so many young hearts!💕
