The mission of the UVA Black Alumni Interest Group Initiative is to cultivate a network of Black alumni that will create and sustain ongoing partnerships with The UVA community, administration, and organizations to provide resources, mentorship, and advocacy for current Black students and alumni. This Facebook Like Page will gauge interests in the Black Alumni Interest Group Initiative, as well as
, to keep everyone abreast of progress toward its creation. The purpose of this organization is not to take the place of any existing organizations or to create a separate Alumni Association, rather to work in tandem with said organizations to ensure that all assets and entities are made available to our community and fill in where there is need.

Updates regarding the Black Alumni Engagement project, also known as the Black Alumni Interest Group:
The Alumni Association has determined that at this time, a Black AIG or Black Alumni Initiative is not feasible and due to manning, it may be a while before new AIGs are accepted, however, many smaller initiatives were proposed and are being pursued at this time. As a result of our meetings and feedback from various Black alumni from across the years, Alumni Hall has partnered with various existing organizations in order to address social, communication, and mentorship concerns. Alumni Hall has partnered with UVA Clubs in Richmond to create specific opportunities to engage Black alumni in the Richmond metro area; if that pilot program is successful, they will look to potentially expanding their partnership to UVA Clubs in D.C., New York, and Atlanta. One such event has already been planned for DC (Dec 11, 12:30pm: http://bit.ly/2fJ6nEa). The Alumni Association facilitated a partnership between OAAA and the University Career Center in an effort to research the possibility of an alumni to student mentoring program through OAAA. OAAA and UCC are currently working together to develop a program. Additionally, the University Career Center is actively seeking Black Alum to take part in the Virginia Alumni Mentoring program, which is already up and running, and connects alumni to current students based on region, career, and other factors selected by the student(https://alumnimentoring.virginia.edu/). The AIG department is also collecting content for a newsletter tailored specifically to Black alumni; the first was distributed, digitally, earlier this month with the plan to release three to four times per year. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if any group you are involved with might have relevant information or content to include in the newsletter.
