Our story begins in 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia, wh

ere six incredible women changed the world. Led by Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, our founders formed The Adelphean Society for “the mental, moral, social, and domestic improvement of its members.” The Adelphean Society, later renamed Alpha Delta Pi, was the first secret society for college women. The principles of scholarship, leadership, sisterhood, and service guide over 215,000 women in more than 140 active collegiate chapters and over 150 alumnae associations of Alpha Delta Pi.

Happy Wednesday!!! Below, Anika Shah and Alice Oakey, both AC ‘25, share how ADPi brought them together as twins and how they are now the greatest of friends. Read about their experiences down below!

Anika Shah:
“Becoming Alice’s twin has been one of my favorite parts of college and ADPi. Alice and I always joke that the universe brought us together because we would’ve never crossed paths if it weren’t for our big! Alice is an amazing friend and sister who I can go to for anything, whether it’s a drive around Cville, to sit in silence and scroll on tik tok, or for advice. She takes time to make sure all her friends feel loved and seen and is truly such an amazing twin! I am grateful for her everyday!”

Alice Oakey:
“I think one of the reasons life brought me to UVA was so that I could know Anika. Being her friend has transformed my time in Charlottesville and I know it will continue to transform the rest of my life. She lights up a room and I always have fun with her no matter what kind of mood I’m in. She’s always checking on her friends, she’s always down for an adventure, and she’s someone I know I can go to with anything. I am grateful every day that our big (shout out to the one and only Kristin Tidey) brought us together. Anika, love you squishhhh 💖💖”
