The goal of the Shoe Drive is to collect “used but useable” shoe to distribute for free to homeless and needy people in Charlottesville. The shoes are donated / collected at area businesses

and are distributed through the Salvation Army. Over the last 20+ years, we have collected and distributed well over 80,000 pairs of shoes to the Charlottesville community free of cost. Department of Housing and Urban Development, as many as 3% of the population in Charlottesville metro area may experience homelessness sometime during the year. Past studies show that as much as 50% of these people have foot problems, pain and disability because of ill-fitting, dilapidated and worn out shoes. The donation phase of the campaign will run through January and local businesses as well as many area schools are encouraged to participate. Just a few of the corporate sponsors (past and present) include: the UVa Departments of Radiology and General Medicine, Dominion Power, Farmington Country Club, CenturyLink, Martha Jefferson Hospital, Ragged Mountain Running Shop, Northrup Grumann, Charlottesville Ballet, Richey Shoes and the Virginia Discovery Museum. Friends and sponsors,

5 weeks and counting....

This year the Salvation Army is having a bit of trouble with their delivery trucks. Pick-ups may be delayed a bit.
Thanks for your patience and continured support.

10/29/2018

With your past assistance we have been able to collect and distribute well over 110,000 pairs of used, but usable shoes to the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community. This has been done in conjunction through the Salvation Army and the local area Podiatry Association. This tremendous effort could not have been possible without your continued support. Once again, we are collecting shoes in January of 2019 and distributing them at the Salvation Army gym on February 23rd. We would like to hope that you could continue to help us in the effort over this coming winter.
This being our 29th year, we hopefully have most of the problems ironed out, but we am always interested in finding out how we can improve this effort. If you know of any other groups that would like to help us, please have them call either of our offices. As in the past, we will place the name of your organization on the poster, which will be distributed throughout the Charlottesville-Albemarle Community.
All that is necessary is a container placed at an appropriate spot in your building and the Salvation Army will pick up these containers during the month of January.
We will get back to you on further details as the time gets closer. Please also notify your group or workers about this program in your business newsletter.
Please “LIKE” our page “Charlottesville Shoes For The Homeless” and/or forward a working Email address to [email protected] so we can keep in touch electronically in the future.
We are hoping that this year will be a continued success for our program. Once again, thank you for your past support and we look forward to seeing you in the near future.
If your organization cannot help us this year, please call or email Bryan at bsnyder@ affapodiatry.com or Sandy at [email protected].
Sincerely yours,
Samuel H. Schustek, DPM & Bryan R Snyder, DPM
