NICA OTB 101 + 201

Start your journey to becoming a Level 2 NICA Coach with On The Bike Training 101. This 3-hour course builds foundational riding technique and helps you learn how to effectively communicate skills to NICA riders.

Held at the Massanutten Western Slopes

Trail pass required ($10): https://svbcoalition.org/western-slope-trails/

Led by Harlan Price of TakeAim Cycling, who brings decades of riding and coaching experience. This course is only offered a few times each year.

Ready for more?
OTB 201 builds on 101 and focuses on teaching advanced mountain bike skills and maneuvers. You’ll leave with sharper riding skills and stronger coaching tools.
OTB 201 earns 5 CEUs
(Level 2 requires 3 CEUs every 3 years, Level 3 requires 6)

Even if you don’t need the credits, this one is worth it. Better riding, better coaching, more confident athletes.

We’re proud to recognize Erika Christie of Virginia as a nominee for NICA’s GRiT Inspiration Award.

Erika’s leadership creates space where girls feel welcome, confident, and ready to ride. Her impact shows up in who lines up, who stays, and how young women grow within her team.

She isn’t just coaching riders.
She’s helping more girls see that they belong here.

We’re grateful to have her shaping the future of our league

Congratulations to all of our Virginia nominees!!!

NICA families are built different. We pack the coolers, pin the numbers, manage the nerves… and then we watch our kids find their people.

Julie Bradbury said it best:
“I’m Julie Bradbury, and I have five kids, three of whom are racing today. We love mountain biking and NICA because it gives our children a place to have a mountain bike community that they can enjoy. NICA provides our kids with a place for really healthy competition. I love that in the races, the kids are cheering for the kids in front of them the entire race. They’re cheering for each other, and I love that. NICA seems to be this perfect blend of competition and summer camp. My kids can’t wait to see all of their friends. They look forward to it every single year.”

This is what makes NICA special. Not just the racing — the community.

“My favorite thing about NICA is the wonderful community.
It just feels like a huge family. Everybody is welcoming.
There aren’t rivals — it’s really wonderful to be around.”
— Emerson

On February 4, National Girls & Women in Sports Day, we celebrate girls like Emerson — the ones who keep showing up, even when it’s hard.
L
Sport gives girls a place to be brave, take risks and show how strong they are.
It protects their mental health through movement, connection, and belonging.
It teaches them that falling isn’t failure and getting back up is the lesson.

And when sport is joyful and supportive, girls stay!
👉 Shout out a girl who inspires you — tag her, name her, or share her story.
Be the reason she stays.

“NICA has taught me how to put my best foot forward and not doubt myself.”

Lucia is a 10th grade rider with Miller School of Albemarle who takes on some of the hardest races of her life. She pushes through tough courses, supports her teammates, and shows up on race day not just as an athlete, but as a coach and leader for younger riders.

That confidence grows from a strong community helping young leaders take on new challenges.

This is what NICA Virginia is all about.

What is your NICA why?
