Five students from the McIntire School of Commerce at UVa spent 5 weeks in Winneba in April & May 2026 working on a couple of important Social Impact Projects. They raised money to outfit a computer lab at Coast Bridge Academy in Akosua Village in Winneba, and they worked on a website for the Aboakyer Festival to broaden international exposure for this event.

The Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation was pleased to assist the group in their efforts. Attached is a video they made about their inspiring work in Winneba. Big thanks and congratulations to Caroline, Carlyn, Emma, JM and Sammy!

As many of you know, Ghana made it to the 48-team World Cup this summer.

For the first round of matches, Ghana will be competing against Panama, England and Croatia. Random Row Brewery at 608 Preston Ave in Charlottesville, whose manager Cori Campbell participated on our latest Sister City delegation to Winneba, will be showing all of the Ghana games, with sound, for all Ghana fans to enjoy.

"Wishing a very special congratulations to Monica Nketsiah. Such a success story. We met Monica when visiting Ghana. She was working as a waiteress at the hotel we stayed at. During one of our group meetings, she expressed interest in going to nursing school. A mentorship was developed between Monica, my sister A'Lelia Henry and myself. After completing one year of high school. Monica was accepted into the BSC Public Health Nursing program. She studied very hard and ensured we were updated on her progress. Monica graduated from nursing school on December 13th, 2025. She now has a career she can rely on and can further assist her family. Thanks to the Charlottesville Winneba Foundation, this is what a true partnerships, mentoring and success look like.

The Charlottesville-Winneba Foundation will be bringing another group of Charlottesville-area residents to visit our Sister City of Winneba, Ghana in May 2026 in conjunction with Winneba's biggest annual festival. These trips are eye-opening and life-changing. Cultural and historical immersion, good food, amazing people...we'd love to have you join us!

Approximate travel dates are April 26-May 7, 2026.

The fee to participate is $3,000 and that includes your airfare, all lodging, all meals, travel visa, travel health insurance, ground transportation, etc. (Thanks to the generosity of a few local donors, we have several $1,000 travel scholarships available to lower-income residents, bringing the travel cost down to $2,000 -- e-mail [email protected] for info. on scholarships.) Our Foundation President, Nana Akyeampong Ghartey, visited All Blessings Flow this morning to present a ceremonial plaque thanking the organization for the tremendous amount of medical equipment and supplies that it has donated over the years to hospitals in Winneba, Ghana. Receiving the plaque were Annie Dodd and Liz Hart from All Blessings Flow. We are so grateful for this wonderful ministry!
