Our tutoring programs benefit from a working relationship with Charlottesville City Schools. Students from Tall Oaks and Charlottesville Middle School (CMS) arrive at our programs already familiar to us, so after-school hours can build on the school day instead of starting over.

That connection also helps us stay close to families. When a student is having a hard time with reading or needs a little extra encouragement, the mentors around that student are more likely to know about it.

Partnership is how we do most of our work. Churches, agencies, businesses, schools, and residents all have a place in it, and we'd welcome a conversation with anyone thinking about where they fit.

There's no single way to volunteer with Abundant Life Ministries, and the right fit usually comes down to how much time you have and what season of life you're in.

▪️Tutoring at Tall Oaks Elementary or with Charlottesville Middle School (CMS) students, which works best as a weekly commitment through the school year
▪️Supporting a high school student weekly to help them plan and reach their goals
▪️Preparing or delivering a meal for one of our evening youth clubs
▪️Helping behind the scenes with special events, hand-written thank you notes, data entry, or prayer

If you're considering one of our youth programs, we prioritize volunteers who can commit to two consecutive years. Consistency is a big part of what makes these relationships work.

Our school-year programs involve plenty of homework help, but that’s not it. Students spend afternoons with a mentor or tutor, sharing life and developing mutually transformative relationships.

That mix is intentional. Academic support tends to hold better when it comes with encouragement, structure, and a place where a young person is known by name.

Royal Girls, Abundant Life’s young women’s enrichment program, grows young women, grades 5th through 8th, individually in their faith and grows them together in sisterhood.

Led by community member, Tekisha Crenshaw, the young ladies eat together every Tuesday, share in testimonies and prayer, and learn God’s Word through devotionals.

Royal Girls, like Kaniah, learn who they are through the lens of God, to then take the Gospel into their homes, schools, and community.
