Today we celebrate le***an history, culture, and community in all its forms. The women who came before us, who fought for visibility and rights in spaces that tried to make them invisible. The ones who built community when no one else would.

Know your story. Know your strength. 🥊

On National Coming Out Day, Out and About VA is partnering with Fight Like A Grrrl Club (Fight Like A Grrrl Club ) for a free self-defense workshop at The Looking Glass on Sunday, October 11, from 1 to 4 PM.

There is nothing quite as empowering as knowing you are prepared. This workshop is fun, practical, and designed to build confidence, awareness, and skills you can actually put to use in real life.

All ages are welcome. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The class is free, with donations welcome.

Winery afternoons with your people at some of the most beautiful vineyards in Virginia. Sunday coffee socials at MarieBette where the conversation always runs long. Theater, opera, and drag shows that give you every reason to get dressed up and go out. Hitting the trails with your community.

October is LGBTQ+ History Month, and it is worth knowing the story behind it. 🌈

In 1994, Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson founded LGBTQ+ History Month because he believed every student deserved to see themselves in history. He chose October deliberately to coincide with National Coming Out Day on October 11 and to honor the anniversaries of the first and second National Marches on Washington for Le***an and Gay Rights in 1979 and 1987.

What began with one teacher became a movement observed across the country every October. A full month dedicated to the stories, struggles, and victories of the LGBTQ+ community that are so often left out of mainstream education.

This October we learn the history, honor the community, and show up for each other. Out and About VA is here all month long. Link in bio for everything coming up. 🤍

SlumberCLAW was absolutely CLAWesome, and we are still buzzing from it. 🎉

Hundreds of you showed up for a night of wrasslin, adventurin, and fundraisin, and together we raised over $11,000 for Out and About VA. We are beyond grateful for every single person who came, cheered, donated, and made it one for the books.

And now for a big October. Here is what we have planned:

🥊 Coming Out Day Self-Defense Workshop — Sun Oct 11, 1–4 PM, The Looking Glass. Free; donations welcome.
🎨 Human Made Craft Night — Mon Oct 12, 6–8 PM, The Scrappy Elephant. $17 per person.
🎬 Virginia Film Festival — Oct 21–25. Out and About is screening an LGBTQ+ themed film. Details dropping soon.
☕ Coffee Social at MarieBette — Sun Oct 25, 3–4:30 PM. Hosted by Michael M.

Summer 2026 was something else entirely. 🌈

From the Tea Dance to the wineries, drag shows to coffee socials, slip-and-slide to SlumberCLAW, this community showed up all summer long and made every single event worth doing.

September 26 at Ting Pavilion, starting at 12:30 PM. Out and About VA will be there with free HIV testing at our booth and a whole lot of community energy.

To every bisexual person who has been told it is a phase. Who has felt invisible in q***r spaces and straight ones. Who has had to fight to be seen exactly as they are.

Your identity is not complicated. It is not confusing. It is not something you need to justify or defend.

Out and About VA celebrates every identity under the q***r umbrella. Not just today, but every single month at every single event. You have always belonged here and you always will. 🌈
