What would it take to walk away from a successful career to serve your community?

For Brent Morris, the answer was a calling.

Since 2004, Brent has been investing in marginalized children and families across Charlotte. After 16 years in corporate management consulting, he left corporate America to serve at-risk immigrant and refugee children in the city's inner neighborhoods.

Today, Brent leads LHCC- Learning Help Centers of Charlotte, where he's passionate about helping children thrive while bringing people together through unity, collaboration, and service.

His vision goes beyond programs. It's about building relationships, strengthening communities, and creating opportunities for every child to succeed.

Because changing a city doesn't begin with buildings.

Every neighborhood has a story.

This week, our journey takes us to South Boulevard, where two organizations are quietly changing lives every single week through relationships, education, and hope.

Our first stop is LHCC- Learning Help Centers of Charlotte .

This summer, something special happened.

Instead of simply creating another camp, Learning Help Centers launched its first-ever Leadership & Service Camp—designed to help older students discover what it means to lead by serving.

They encouraged these students to step up, invest in younger campers, and become the kind of role models every community needs.

Because leadership doesn't begin when you become an adult.

It begins the moment someone believes in you.

That's what makes Learning Help Centers so special. They aren't just helping students succeed in school, they're helping young people discover purpose, confidence, and the ability to influence others for good.

And that's how stronger neighborhoods are built.

Together, LHCC- Learning Help Centers of Charlotte and are investing in children and families, building trust, strengthening education, providing meals, and walking alongside people for the long haul. Their work reflects the belief that lasting transformation begins with relationships and grows through consistent care.

East Charlotte reminded us that lasting change begins with relationships.

We met leaders who choose to become neighbors. Organizations that show up consistently. Partners who bring different strengths to the same community. And people who understand that building hope takes more than a program. It takes trust, presence, and time.

From Neighborhood Hope to Charlotte Eagles, we saw what can happen when relationships come first and organizations work together.

But our journey isn't over.

There are more neighborhoods to visit.
More partners to meet.
More stories to hear.
And more hope in action across our city.

One organization cannot meet every need in a community.

And it shouldn’t have to.

In East Charlotte, Neighborhood Hope and Charlotte Eagles bring different strengths, relationships, and resources to the same communities.

One partner may connect with a family around a meal. Another may build a relationship with a child on the soccer field. Together, those relationships create more opportunities to know families, respond to needs, and walk alongside communities over time.

This is why City of Hope exists.

Not to duplicate the work already happening.

To connect it. Strengthen it. And help trusted partners accomplish more together than any one organization could do alone.

Different organizations. Different roles. Shared community.

⚽ More than a game. More than a program. A relationship that can change a life.
It may start with a soccer ball.

But what happens next is where the real impact begins.

A child is known by name.
A leader becomes a trusted neighbor.
A family gains someone willing to walk alongside them.
And relationships grow through the simple act of consistently showing up.
