October
Poet: Edgar A Guest
Days are gettin' shorter an' the air a keener snap;
Apples now are droppin' into Mother Nature's lap;
The mist at dusk is risin' over valley, marsh an' fen
An' it's just as plain as sunshine, winter's comin' on again.

The turkeys now are struttin' round the old farmhouse once more;
They are done with all their nestin', and their hatchin' days are o'er;
Now the farmer's cuttin' fodder for the silo towerin' high
An' he's frettin' an' complainin' 'cause the corn's a bit too dry.

But the air is mighty peaceful an' the scene is good to see,
An' there's somethin' in October that stirs deep inside o' me;
An' I just can't help believin' in a God above us, when
Everything is ripe for harvest and the frost is back again.

A Month Of Laughter
Poet: Catherine Pulsifer

August arrives with joyful cheer,
A month of laughter drawing near.
The sun shines bright, the sky so blue,
Adventure awaits, as dreams come true.

Flowers bloom in radiant hues,
August, a time to chase what's new.
With hearts alight, we'll savor each day,
Oh, August, our excitement will never sway.

July 1, 2025.

Dear Honored Ladies and Sir Knights:

I would normally send out our Carolina Court updates the first of the month but as we are DARK in July I wanted to highlight the many things coming up.

Congratulations to Bizzy Herbolsheimer and every dedicated member of The Order of the Amaranth! Together, we raised an incredible $635,397.38 - with 100% of the funds going directly to the American Diabetes Association in support of their mission to find a cure for diabetes. We were honored to have Chuck Henderson, CEO, and Susan Dishart, Planned Giving Officer of the ADA, present for the official check presentation. The future is bright with hope. Amaranth Diabetes Foundation, Inc. Working together for a cure.

One of the things I have strived to accomplish this year has been better communication. It’s hard to get behind something when you don’t know that it is happening. Through the efforts of our membership we have a web page at http://www.ncamaranth.com, Our page Grand Court of North Carolina Order of Amaranth, along with Caring and Sharing, phone calls and a NC Phone Tree for emergencies. We have a lot going on and we want everyone to know about the opportunities to participate. Subscribe to our Amaranthine Light for $9. There should be articles submitted each quarter from our Grand Officers and from each subordinate court. The articles are due to HL Heidi by July 10th.

Our Newest Committee: The Iceberg Committee .. Honored Ladies Heidi Washam, Linda Johnson, Kamin Burns, Wendy Connally, Judy Trest, Katie Tang and Sir Knights Terry Washam, Warren Taylor, Michael Connally and Mike Trest. Please keep all of our Honored Ladies and Sir Knights in our hearts and prayers as they struggle with life changing events. Linda Johnson, Charlene Oldenburg, Steve White, and Auretia Mullis. Also all those caught in yesterday’s flooding and torrential rains along with those still recovering from Hurricane Helene.

Remember to above all BE KIND. You have no idea what we are individually going through so kindness and unity need to be our watchwords.

The Month Of July

Poet: Catherine Pulsifer

July, how we adore thee,
A month of warm and sunny glee.
With thirty-one days in your keep,
We wish for more time to play and sleep.

Cool ocean waves and sparkling sands,
Barbecue grills and ice cream stands.
Yet fleeting are your precious hours,
We savor them like summer flowers.

Oh July, please slow your pace,
And let us bask in your warm embrace.

Judith L. Trest June 1976 American Flag Tribute

For over 200 years, Our Flag, the Stripes of Red and White with Stars on field of Blue, has been a symbol of American Freedom and Independence – an ever constant reminder, to us, the people of these United States, of those who sacrificed their lives, so that we may live in freedom.

The 13 red and white stripes represent the original 13 colonies and the struggle during the Revolutionary war for the right to freedom and the pursuit of happiness.

The Red stands for courage, and denotes the courage that the men and women of our country have shown, in defending our Flag against tyranny. It inspires our citizens to courageous deeds in its name, and bears silent witness to those to whom the ideals and the honor of a nation, have been dearer than life itself. There is hardly a corner of this great country, which does not pay tribute to the heroic deeds performed in the name of our Flag. White stands for liberty – the land of the free – equality for all – It invites the oppressed of the world to come unto it and prosper. It reminds us of the Civil War when brother fought against brother to free the enslaved, and who, after the war, joined together to make our country greater than ever.

Blue stands for loyalty – the blue of the heavens and the thousands loyal to our country through good times and bad, through suffering and hardships. It symbolizes men and women who hesitated at nothing to serve their country, and their Flag, even at the cost of their lives. When called upon to serve, they responded with deeds of patriotism, not words.

Each star on that field of Blue represents the entrance of each State in our Union. It is a symbol of the toil and strife, not only of our Forefathers, but also to all those who follow them.

In the name of our Flag, we have fought for independence, and national unity. Our Flag is a jealous mistress, who requires the undivided allegiance, of each generation, to uphold its own patriotic duty, and endure as those who have come before. It is because of this allegiance, that our country became one of greatness.

And so our Flag stands today, a symbol of Hope, flying in the name of peace, and the brotherhood of man. It is a tribute to the accomplishments of yesterday, and the dreams and hopes of tomorrow – the future of mankind. Our Flag represents the people of the United States of American – you and me. Let us stand by the Stars and Stripes, now and forever, as a symbol which inspires brave men and women to uphold our freedom.
