CLT Bike Camp

CLT Bike Camp CLT Bike Camp inspires healthy lifestyle choices, connection to nature and community interaction. Summer 2016 was our first year of operation.

Charlotte and Bethanie, two passionate educators and car-free individuals were brought together over a common idea; to spend their summer riding bicycles with kids. The roots of bike camp grew out of both their experiences riding bicycles with the students of their schools. Charlotte along with Nancy, two facilitators at the local Agile Learning Center were riding bikes with their students for fie

ld trips, outings and to explore the surrounding neighborhood. Meanwhile across town, Bethanie along with Heather, another educator, were cultivating a strong community with Bicycle Friday, which is a now established Park Road Montessori tradition of riding bikes to school together on Friday. Both Charlotte and Bethanie had thought about doing a camp and had shared this idea with others. They were introduced through a mutual friend and the project was born. With support from ALC Mosaic, Pam Murray, the locally beloved Recyclery & Trips for Kids Charlotte, and MANY others, CLT Bike Camp launched the pilot program. For two weeks the camp brought the cycling community together in a new and profound way. It was our wish, along with that of parents and community members, to continue to cultivate and grow this initiative. We look forward to another great summer!

Please register below for our first Learn to Ride of the Summer/Fall season! This is a 4 hour event that takes place from 1-3 on September 12th and 19th.

Our Learn to ride workshops have an instructor ratio of 2 children to 1 coach. Children learn through a variety of balance games and practice, as well as peer support. We have about a 95% success rate with our workshops and lessons, and we use the balance bike approach to learning. First you learn to manage your bike and use the brakes, then you learn to roll and pick up your feet. After that we move on to "scooter bike," and finally pedaling. That means by the time you learn pedaling, you can already manage your bicycle. This process helps children be more comfortable and confident. Please register below!
