Lester arrived in the United States from Nicaragua determined to build a better future through a career in construction. After being connected to Goodwill, he enrolled in our tuition-free Construction Basics and Blueprint Reading & Estimating training programs to gain the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the industry.

Through hands-on training and support from his Career Navigator, Lester learned how the construction field operates in the U.S., strengthened his resume and prepared for competitive interviews. The guidance and encouragement he received helped him take the next step toward his career goals.

Today, Lester is working as an electrician apprentice with BESCO and recently earned a spot in a four-year apprenticeship program. He is helping support major projects throughout the Charlotte area while continuing to build skills for a long-term career in the trades.

Thank you to the PNC Foundation for helping make our career training programs accessible to people in our community. Your support helps individuals gain in-demand skills, pursue meaningful careers and create brighter futures for themselves and their families.

Sometimes one opportunity can open many doors!

We're proud to celebrate Erling, Martravius and Morgan, participants in our Construction Training Program, who were recently honored at the Healthcare Career Collaborative Recognition Breakfast as recipients of scholarships from the Healthcare Career Collaborative, AMFP (Charlotte Association of Medical Facility Professionals) and MMCA (Metrolina Minority Contractors Association).

These scholarships are helping participants pursue their goals while connecting them with valuable networking, mentorship, job shadowing and career exploration opportunities.

We're grateful to the Healthcare Career Collaborative and its partners for making these opportunities possible!

October is Careers in Construction Month!

Meet Austin, a Facilities Technician at Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont.

If you've visited Rewind, our record and media store, you've likely seen his handiwork. A graduate of Goodwill's Construction Skills Training program, Austin helped bring the space to life by building many of the custom fixtures and features throughout the store.

Today, his story serves as a powerful reminder of how skills training can create opportunities, build careers and strengthen our community.

Thanks to your generosity, stories like Austin's are possible. Every time you shop or donate at Goodwill, you're helping support career training programs that change lives.

Good Turn for Goodwill is back! Every year, we partner with Goodwill Industries for this community service project. Girl Scouts give back to those in need while learning about Goodwill’s employment and training programs and how their donations help to support these efforts – you can even schedule a troop field trip to tour a local Goodwill store.

Visit our blog to read the 2026 packet to learn more about participating and earning this patch! https://blog.girlscoutsp2p.org/2026/09/30/2026-good-turn-for-goodwill-begins-october-1/

Every donation tells a story.

Last year, thanks to our generous community, more than 21 million items were given a second life. đź’™ We're always looking for ways to make donating more convenient, which is why we're excited to have one of our newer donation sites located at Rewind.

If you stop by, be sure to say hello to Scott. He's one of the friendly faces helping donors every day.

Thank you for supporting our mission and helping give items a second chance!

Sometimes the next step in your career starts with having someone in your corner.

When Seth joined Goodwill, he had recently earned his master's degree in management and knew he wanted to build a career in finance and business. While working at The GRID: Powered by Goodwill, he made his goals clear and took every opportunity to grow.

After starting as a cashier, Seth advanced to lead computer technician and later assistant manager. When he was promoted, he enrolled in Goodwill's Pathways coaching program, where he worked one-on-one with a coach to develop his leadership skills, prepare for interviews and pursue the career he had been working toward.

With support from Pathways, Seth stayed focused on his goals and, within months, landed a position as a relationship banker with Bank of America.

Seth says the support he received through Pathways helped him take the next step and reminded him that Goodwill was invested in his success, whether his future was within the organization or beyond it.

We're proud to celebrate Seth and all he has accomplished through hard work, determination and the support of Pathways.
