Agriculture is at the heart of life in Tessem, sustaining families and supporting the community across generations. TECH will build on this strong foundation by introducing hands-on learning in sustainable farming practices, food safety testing and storage, and innovative soil enrichment techniques like biochar — empowering youth with skills that support both the land and their future prosperity.

Tessem is a rural Pulaar village along the Senegal River in southwestern Mauritania, home to roughly 500 young people. The Tessem Education Community Hub (TECH), led by Irina Ly in collaboration with the Tessem community and The Community Education Project, will be a center where youth gain hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture and access to progressive English education. By connecting practical farming knowledge with global learning, TECH will open doors to brighter futures and strengthen the community from within.

Construction is beginning as this new center comes to life, with the hub set to be completed this coming spring. Follow Tessem Education Community Hub to join us as we work alongside Tessem’s youth and families to create lasting opportunity!
