North Carolina’s fisheries belong to all of us. Yet our state continues to allow large-scale shrimp trawls to drag through public nursery waters and kill juvenile fish by the hundreds of millions. Rules on paper are not enough. It is time to and prohibit large-scale, inshore bottom shrimp trawling.

The City of Charlotte's Landscape Management division and Keep Charlotte Beautiful are celebrating fall with Leave Your Leaves! 🍂

Instead of bagging up every leaf this season, consider leaving them where they land or moving them into a garden bed, around trees or into a natural corner of your yard. Whole leaves shelter butterflies, moths, bees and other wildlife through the winter while building healthier soil for your yard.

Just remember: keep leaves off sidewalks, driveways, streets and storm drains.

Learn more about Leave Your Leaves and request your own yard sign to help spread the word in your neighborhood at charlottenc.gov/leaves.

Talk about a complicated love life. 😉❤️

In some praying mantis species, mating can come with an unexpected twist: cannibalism.

One partner may consume the other during or after mating, providing valuable nutrients that help support egg production. While it might seem shocking to us, it's one of nature's more unusual reproductive strategies.
