Oasis Shriners Patrol

Oasis Shriners Patrol We are a proud tradition of the Oasis Shriners. Being the first unit formed in 1910, our history has grown with the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Oasis Shrine Temple was formed in 1895. In 1910, Oasis formed its first Unit, the Arab Marching Patrol, better known as "The Patrol." The Patrol was the only Oasis unit for several years until the band was formed in 1913. Other units were formed slowly throughout the years with a total of only 8 units until 1972 when the Temple began an expansion program to get more participation from its nobles.

Due to this “parenthood” by the Patrol, membership was highly prized and for many years the only path to the Divan was through the Patrol. Currently, the 2012-2013 Imperial Potentate and the 2000 Oasis Shriner’s Potentate comes from the working ranks of The Oasis Shrine Patrol Unit. Looking back through the years, the ranks of Potentates and most other highly ranked positions in Oasis were filled with Patrolmen. In 1913, we had 45 members meeting on Fridays except in the summer months. “The Patrol" continued to be the showcase for Oasis Temple at Imperial level. The Oasis Patrol Color Guard and The Oasis Marching Patrol was "The Number One Unit" once again this year. These quotes were taken from the Oasis archives and newspaper. Today, the Patrol has 34 active members and 44 veterans, most of whom are also active. We still meet on Friday nights at 7:00 pm, approximately once per month except during the summer. We get together for meetings, ceremonials, paper sales, WFNZ Doghouse, and other events about 25 times per year. Per Temple requirements, we must meet 75% attendance,
with heavy emphasis on ceremonials and Temple activities. Our ladies are most involved as we have found this to be important. Sometimes, the ladies help us work… sometimes it is their attendance at Ladies Night, a formal dinner dance to honor them each November, or maybe
just getting together at the Temple on Friday nights while we meet, or even a covered dish dinner as part of a regular meeting. In any event, we make our ladies a part of us! We work hard and play hard as with most Nobles. You see us as we tile doors at ceremonials or as we march in parades, provide the Temple Color Guard and do intricate precision drills in competition with other patrols. Good physical condition is a must.

The Oasis Patrol celebrated their Ladies this past Friday night at Mecklenburg Shrine Club!!! We were missing several of our members but I believe everyone had a great time. A great meal by The Hill Restaurant and Catering. Each Lady that attended left with a couple of roses.

A Message from Leslie Stewart, MD, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Brad Koehn, Imperial Potentate:

To Our Fellow Brothers,

We are writing to share something of great concern. As you may know, false posts on social media continue to circulate about two of our beloved Shriners Children's spokespatients, Alec and Kaleb. Let us be clear: Alec and Kaleb are both doing well.

We are honored to have been part of their journey and are deeply impressed by their many achievements. Alec and Kaleb have represented our organization with authenticity, humor and heart for many years, and continue to be deeply valued by all who know their stories.

What is most troubling about this misinformation is the harm it can cause. The spread of false and malicious content has real consequences. This moment serves as a stark reminder of how quickly misinformation can spread and why thoughtful responses matter.

If you encounter content online that seems misleading, we ask you to:

• Avoid engaging. Don’t share, comment, react or amplify.

• Report it immediately. Use the platform’s reporting tools to notify it of the post and account.

• Seek the truth. Rely on trusted, official sources, including Shriners Children's social media channels, for accurate information.

Reporting false content helps platforms identify and remove misinformation, reduce its reach and protect our community.

We are grateful to those who paused, verified and responded with care. That commitment to truth and compassion reflects the best of who we are. Thank you for helping keep accuracy, kindness, and respect at the center of everything we share.

Please join us in sending Alec, Kaleb and their families our best wishes as our community navigates this situation.

Yours in the faith,
Leslie D. Stewart, M.D., Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Shriners Children's

Brad T. Koehn, Imperial Potentate, Shriners International
