Atrium Health Foundation

Atrium Health Foundation Atrium Health Foundation serves as the primary point of contact for all charitable contributions to Atrium Health in the Charlotte area. Cannon Research Center.

Since 1959, Atrium Health Foundation has steadfastly pursued a single goal: to advance health-related issues, programs and services in the Carolinas that ensure a better quality of life for all. With a long and distinguished record of succeeding in making that vision a reality, Atrium Health Foundation provides significant financial support for programs and services within Atrium Health, including

facilities such as Levine Cancer Institute, Levine Children’s Hospital, Carolinas Medical Center, and the James G. Today, multiple programs and services throughout Atrium Health are being supported or significantly enhanced by philanthropy. Children’s programs, new cardiac initiatives, neurosciences research, and behavioral health programs are just a few of the important areas upon which we are focused. Philanthropy can substantially enhance these programs and services; and in some cases, it is the primary means to create and sustain a program or service. Innovations and philanthropic leadership have helped to support the establishment of numerous facilities and programs that have substantially enhanced services provided by Atrium Health including Levine Children’s Hospital, Ricky Hendrick Centers for Intensive Care, Levine Cancer Institute, Blumenthal Infusion Center, Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS-MDA Center, Torrence E. Hemby, Jr. Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Center, Hemby Pediatric Trauma Institute, F. H. Sammy Ross Trauma Center, Mattei Institute for Treatment of Chronic Disease, McColl-Lockwood Laboratory for Muscular Dystrophy Research, and many more. These facilities and programs serve thousands of patients from all walks of life. Atrium Health Foundation has grown from an organization that raised less than $500,000 per year in the late 1980s, to one that now regularly raises $15 to $25 million per year. From 2004-2007, CHF conducted one of the largest capital campaigns in the history of Charlotte, raising over $65 million from the community for the construction and equipping of Levine Children’s Hospital. Every year, thousands of generous people are doing great things on our behalf. In fact, our Foundation receives support from more than 2,500 events and activities annually. Whether large or small, these efforts collectively make a tremendous impact. It is encouraging to watch what can happen when a community pulls together to support excellence in healthcare. Thanks to each and every one of our donors, we are making a difference in the lives of people in the Carolinas each and every day.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew I wanted to be a nurse.”

At Atrium Health Concierge Care, Mary makes her patients feel seen, heard, and cared for — whether that means taking extra time to listen, personalizing care for each patient, or wrapping someone in a warm blanket to make them comfortable.

Mary’s compassion has earned her multiple recognitions as an Atrium Health Nursing Star, an honor that celebrates nurses whose dedication and outstanding care leave a lasting impact on the patients and families they serve.

Through the Atrium Health Nursing Fund, we celebrate extraordinary nurses like Mary while investing in the future of the profession — supporting continuing education, leadership development, nursing research, and more.

Atrium Health nurses took the national stage and brought home new skills to strengthen care across the region.

Through support from the Atrium Health Nursing Fund, Greater Charlotte nurse leaders attended the American Organization for Nursing Leadership (AONL) Annual Conference in Chicago, exploring topics ranging from artificial intelligence in health care to more human-centered leadership practices.

The team presented on psychological safety in care teams, earning a standing ovation for their message on inclusive, trust-driven leadership. Since returning, they have already been invited to present this work in multiple settings, with growing interest in formal publication.

“I see firsthand how opportunities like AONL shape our nurse leaders, and I’m so grateful to our donors for making that possible for our team,” shared conference speaker Stephanie O’Bryon, director of patient care services at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, Atrium Health Mercy, and Atrium Health South Park Adult Emergency Departments.

A transformational gift is helping shape the future of heart and cancer care.️

The William, Jeff & Jennifer Gross Family Foundation has committed $2 million to advance clinical research and care innovation at Atrium Health.

Funding will also drive blood cancer research at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute, expanding participation in National Cancer Institute-supported and investigator-initiated clinical trials while improving patient access by alleviating financial hardships and barriers to care.

Since 2019, the William, Jeff & Jennifer Gross Family Foundation has contributed $10 million to Atrium Health, helping drive innovation in education, research and patient-centered care.

At Atrium Health Union, nurse manager Anthony Carnes and the cardiac team are piloting artificial intelligence to reduce documentation burden and give nurses more time to focus on what matters most: their patients. The hospital was among the first in the nation to implement an ambient listening tool within its medical record system.

By securely capturing key details from patient conversations — such as symptoms, pain levels, and clinical observations — the technology allows nurses to stay present at the bedside while ensuring accurate records.

Last fall, the ANCC - American Nurses Credentialing Center recognized this work with the ANCC Pathway Award®, sponsored by Press Ganey. Now, the $100,000 grant is supporting efforts to strengthen nurse training and ultimately expand the program.

Through the Carolinas Breast Cancer Fund, his efforts are powering clinical research led by his friend, Dr. Antoinette Tan. “Support like this is essential to push breast cancer care forward — through innovative discoveries, expanded access to clinical trials, and improved outcomes for patients across our region,” she shared.

“I simply serve as a bridge between LCI and many generous, kindhearted individuals who want to help,” added Marc. Together, these gifts are helping improve care for those facing breast cancer.

Allegacy Financial is expanding access to life-saving breast cancer care through its support of Project PINK Union. Administered by Atrium Health Atrium Health Levine Cancer and Charlotte Radiology, the program recently provided underinsured and uninsured patients with free mammograms and follow-up services during a screening day sponsored by Allegacy and hosted at its Indian Trail location.

This commitment is deeply personal, inspired by associates like Melissa Garcia (right), who is a two-time breast cancer survivor. We are grateful to donors like Allegacy who invest their time, care, and resources to help women in the community receive these vital services.
