Upcoming Dementia Champion Training!!

We will be holding a Dementia Champion Training on January 29th, 2026, from 1:00–3:30 PM at Centralina.

A Dementia Champion hosts Dementia Friend Sessions in the their community where, as a volunteer, educate the community about dementia and support those living with dementia by taking actions - both big and small.

Anyone of any age can be a Dementia Champion! We all have a part to play in creating dementia-friendly communities!

Our Mission: To improve community awareness on dementia and enhance the lives of people living with dementia in the community by:

Reducing stigma
Reducing barriers
Creating a safe environment
Improving quality of life

Dementia Friendly Charlotte Mecklenburg continued to partner with AARP North Carolina to provide our community with a dual Dementia Friends Session and AARP’s Six Pillars of Brain Health at Charlotte Mecklenburg-Hickory Grove Library.

A note from Angela Burrow after the latest Dementia Friends session.... It is so encouraging to read the participants' feedback. Maury says, "Because of my own fears I have avoided learning more about dementia. That is going to change for me! One of my friends has recently been diagnosed with dementia. I have been avoiding her because of my lack of knowledge. l am going to reconnect with her and be a Dementia Friend".

Dementia Champion, Angela Burrow, returned to Matthews Glen retirement community to create 41 new Dementia Friends in Charlotte Mecklenburg! Lots of interest, questions and suggestions from the Residents to raise awareness and be supportive of their neighbors, staff and families living with, and caring for, those with dementia. Thank you to Resident, Bob and IT staff member Kevin!!
