💙 Voices of Change 💙

At Brave Step, change happens when passionate people choose to invest their time, talent and heart into creating a safer, more supportive community for survivors.

Today, we're excited to introduce Shannon Crawford Walker, who has joined Brave Step as our new part-time Fundraising and Campaign Leader.

With more than 20 years of nonprofit leadership experience and over $8 million raised to advance mission-driven work, Shannon brings a deep commitment to helping organizations grow their impact through meaningful relationships and sustainable philanthropy.

But what excites us most isn't her impressive credentials; it's her belief in the power of community and the role each of us can play in creating change.

As we look toward upcoming initiatives like Meat Fest, Color It Blue and expanding support for survivors and loved ones, Shannon's leadership will help strengthen the resources needed to ensure Brave Step's programs remain accessible to those who need them most.

Please join us in welcoming Shannon to the Brave Step family. Together, we're building a future where healing, hope, and support are available to every person who seeks them.

Leadership is compassion.

Sometimes the strongest leaders are not the ones with the loudest voices, but the ones who quietly show up again and again with empathy, patience and care.

The friend who listens without judgment.
The loved one who stays present through difficult moments.
The person who creates space for others to feel safe, seen and supported.

Compassion may seem small in the moment, but it has the power to change someone’s path forward.

At Brave Step, we believe leadership often begins with simply caring deeply for others.

💙 One Brave Thing 💙

What if one brave thing this week was saying “yes” to leadership?

Serving on a nonprofit board isn't just about governance—it's about helping shape the future of a mission you believe in. At Brave Step, our Board of Directors plays a vital role in expanding access to recovery, support, education and advocacy for survivors of sexual violence, loved ones and allies.

You don't need to have all the answers. You simply need a willingness to learn, lead and lend your talents to a cause that changes lives.

If you've been looking for a meaningful way to give back, consider exploring board service with Brave Step or share this opportunity with someone who might be a great fit. https://bravestep.org/board-engagement/

Sometimes one brave thing is stepping forward and using your voice, skills and leadership to create lasting impact.

💙 Lead with purpose.
💙 Help strengthen our mission.
💙 Be part of the change.

Brave Step is seeking mission‑aligned leaders for our board of directors to help guide our next chapter of sustainable growth.

💙 Voices of Change 💙

Recovery does not happen in isolation. Sometimes, it begins when survivors find a space where they are seen, understood and no longer carrying their story alone.

One participant recently shared this reflection about Brave Step’s group therapy experience.

We are continually reminded that the journey to wellbeing is strengthened through community, courage and the willingness to show up authentically for one another. To every survivor doing the hard work: we see you and your voice matters. 💙

Supporting someone through trauma or sexual violence can be meaningful — and emotionally heavy.

Loved ones and allies often carry worry, grief, exhaustion, or helplessness while trying to show up well for someone they care about.

But support does not require perfection.

Listening, believing, respecting boundaries, and staying present can make a powerful difference. And caring for yourself along the way matters too.

You deserve support, rest, and compassion as well.
