100 Gardens

100 Gardens Mission: to empower communities to become smarter, healthier, and more compassionate through aquaponics.

In 2011, legendary architect and civic organizer Ron Morgan founded 100 Gardens as a humanitarian effort to feed the victims of the 2010 Haiti earthquake. Since then, 100 Gardens has evolved into a multi-faceted educational program focused on sustainable food source solutions using aquaponics. Since 2011, 100 Gardens has installed and implemented aquaponics programs (“Gardens”) in Haiti, four Char

lotte-area high schools, and one at Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center where incarcerated young men operate an aquaponics system growing healthy food for their own cafeteria, while writing a new story for themselves. By building 100 Gardens, we can create a new generation of sustainable thinkers…

🌱📚 MEET NORA! 📚🌱

Say hello to Nora, our latest Bulbateer-intern and resident compost investigator! 👋

During the school year, Nora worked with 100 Gardens at the Innovation Barn doing aquaponics. From there, her passion for environmental science + sustainable agriculture brought her straight to The Bulb. She’d actually volunteered at a Bulb market before joining the team and immediately loved what we’re all about: bringing produce to the people. 🥕💚

This summer, Nora has been digging into our compost capacity — monitoring our compost levels and using that data to figure out the most cost-effective and efficient way to put our compost to work 🫡🌱♻️

When she’s not crunching compost numbers, you can find Nora:
🍓 Eating strawberries in her oatmeal (usually every. single. day.)
📚 Getting lost in a good book
🤝 Meeting new people and making an impact

We’re having such a great summer with you, Nora! 💚

Garden #26) Plymouth County House of Corrections

ESTABLISHED: 2023
PLYMOUTH, MA
At the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Massachusetts, a 1,500-square-foot aquaponics greenhouse offers inmates hands-on training in sustainable agriculture while producing fresh food for the community. Supported by a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources and technical guidance from 100 Gardens, the program teaches STEM and workforce skills, donates produce to local food banks, and hosts educational visits from students and homeschool groups.
