Charlotte Fire mourns the loss of Chicago Fire Department Firefighter Mike Altman, who died in the line of duty after being critically injured while battling an apartment fire in the Rogers Park neighborhood.

Firefighter Altman, 32, was operating inside the structure during a search when he fell through the floor into a basement engulfed in fire. He was rescued and transported to Stroger Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. Nearly 100 personnel responded to the fire.

A member of Truck 47 with nearly two years of service, Altman was part of a proud four-generation firefighting family in Chicago. He is remembered for his selflessness and commitment to putting others first.

He is survived by his wife, a young child, and another child on the way. Our hearts are with the Altman family, the members of Truck 47, and the entire Chicago Fire Department as they mourn this tragic loss. We honor Mike’s courage, service, and ultimate sacrifice.
