DMP Street Team - CLT

The Doing My Part Street Team is the volunteer force of Doing My Part, Inc. Through various avenues, we provide direct service to our community.

The Street Team is the volunteer force of Doing My Part, Inc. We have our own volunteer opportunities and also get together groups of volunteers to help other organizations with similar missions. Our, Hit The Streets program has existed for four years. Every other Sunday, a group of dedicated volunteers take to the streets of Uptown Charlotte with one goal in mind -- to make a difference in the lives of the homeless. Everyone does their part and brings a little, we compile those goods and hand them out to the people who need it most.We rely solely on the donations brought by those who come out to volunteer with us. On average we are able to provide 50-60 people with a simple meal and a reminder that there are people that care. Periodically, we get teams together to help support other organizations that need volunteers- such as delivering turkeys to needy families during Thanksgiving time, raising a pool the family of a veteran, or collecting and giving out 117 pairs of shoes and socks to homeless children, and many other causes.

Sunday’s group was one another incredible experience. We passed out 30/40 goodie bags within the first half hour. Our group of regulars has been growing a lot over the past few months. We are handing out everything that has been donated each week, coming back with empty wagons. Our goodie bags consisted of a verity of sandwiches, fruit, snacks, yogurt, ice pops and hygiene kits. We also had many books to choose from! Being stopped in one place allowed us to have some great conversations with everyone we were helping. Getting to know all the amazing people we help on the streets is my favorite part of this group!

It was another hot day in Uptown, but the energy on the streets was absolutely beautiful. Together, we connected with incredible local artists, handed out tons of food to neighbors in need, and celebrated a beautiful milestone—the 9-year volunteer-versity of one of our most dedicated team members!

I’m always amazed by the incredible people we meet on the streets. Today one of the people we met educated us about small business loans and how we can help more people. Just because someone is on the streets doesn’t mean they are any different then you or I. It’s always a constant reminder not to judge a book by its cover.

We couldn’t have asked for a better mother’s. Thanks to everyone who came out…. We had so much food but it hardly lasted us a half hour. They need was real today. Our volunteers handed out goodie bags with hot dogs, sandwiches, chicken salads sandwiches, cheese burgers, mac and cheese and all sorts of desserts and fruits. A big hit was also the books. Murder mysteries were popular. We shared plenty of laughs with everyone which made it an extra special way to spend Mother’s Day.

The street team celebrated Easter last weekend by spreading love and kindness throughout uptown! Wr met some amazing individual on this beautiful Sunday .

Another amazing hit the streets Sunday! This is a late post as I was reflecting on how grateful I am for all the incredible volunteers that keep us going each week.

Each person has a story on why they joined us to volunteer. This post is dedicated to you all, I love hearing the reasons why.

We were grateful to have a lot of warm clothes, blankets, hats and gloves to pass out. Hot dogs and cold cut sandwiches were also on the menu along with the usual snacks and toiletries. Goodie bags were packed full!

Unfortunately, Elf was wrong…. And I love Elf…. The best way to spread Christmas cheer isnt singing, it’s by giving back. We were able to hand out a xmas sleigh (wagon) full of Christmas stockings with goodies. Thank you to the anonymous donor who helped fund the stockings. We also had hand made winter hats, along with lots of food and warm clothes! Merry Christmas from the Hit the Streets crew.

We held a special volunteer opportunity recently with some amazing coworkers. Our homeless friends really appreciated the hot soup to help keep them warm. We came across a homeless gentleman who said, "It's meant to be. I knew I'd see you today." What was so surprising about his statement was that we'd never come across this particular homeless man before. He said he knew because he was reading the Bible, and the verse he read was Psalm 41:1: "Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble." We were there for him in his time of trouble. ❤️
