Later this week, we're heading to the mountains of Barnardsville for a mission trip of service and hope. As the second anniversary of Hurricane Helene approaches, many families there are still rebuilding ...

This trip is about more than repairs. It's a chance for our children and families to put faith into action, serving side by side and showing neighbors in need that they have not been forgotten.

We need your help in two ways:

Pray for safe travel, strong hands, open hearts, and meaningful connections with the families we'll serve.

Prayerfully consider a sponsorship toward our goal of $1,500 to help cover travel, lodging, meals, and supplies for our team of 20. That's just $75 per person, and every gift, large or small, brings us closer to making this trip possible. [Insert giving link]

Serving Barnardsville: Two Years After Helene

✨ Partnership Spotlight ✨

At COH, we believe in the power of collaboration. 🤝

Today, we're highlighting two incredible partners making a lasting impact in Charlotte: Learning Help Centers of Charlotte and Seeds of Hope.

❤️ Laura Swisher recently shared:

"I have never been to a nonprofit luncheon where the beautiful volunteers served a home-cooked delicious lunch, and the Executive Director was so emotional speaking about the children they serve because he loves them so much that he would have to pause and catch his breath."

That passion starts with servant leadership. Brent Morris is a one-of-a-kind leader whose heart for children and families is evident in everything LHCC does. Through tutoring, mentoring, academic support, and faith-filled encouragement, Learning Help Centers is helping students thrive both in and out of the classroom.

The impact of this partnership is already being seen. Through the collaboration between LHCC, Seeds of Hope, and City of Hope, three scholars have achieved remarkable success:
🎓 One graduated college in just two years
📚 Two earned Dean's List honors at Carolina University with 4.0 and 3.9 GPAs

This is what collective impact looks like—organizations working together to change lives and create brighter futures.

✨ This one hits different. 💙

In the summer of 2013, we opened our doors for the very first time and Nick was one of only 10 students who walked in. That summer planted a seed.

Fast forward to today: Nick just graduated from St. Joseph's University in New York and is launching a career in cybersecurity. 🖥️🔐

What made Nick stand out? His conscientiousness. His athleticism. And a mother whose unwavering support reminded us that it truly takes a village.

Stories like Nick's are why Learning Help Centers of Charlotte exists, to walk alongside young people from their first steps all the way to their greatest ones.

Its Volunteer Appreciation Week and today we feature another story celebrating our awesome volunteer. When Mr. Thomas first sat down with Christopher, it was to help him with homework. Six years later, it's so much more than that. What started as tutoring sessions grew into something LHCC calls kinship; a bond built on consistency, trust, and the kind of genuine investment that changes how a young person sees himself. As Christopher moved from middle school into high school, Mr. Thomas moved with him, transitioning from tutor to mentor without missing a beat. He didn't just help Christopher understand math; he helped him understand his own potential.

Today, Christopher carries himself with a quiet confidence that his LHCC family recognizes as something earned — not given. He has emerging as a student leader, a young man others look up to, and a living example of what happens when a volunteer refuses to be just a volunteer. Mr. Thomas now chairs our Governance Committee, shapes the future of the Learning Help Centers of Charlotte organization, and still shows up for Christopher. That is kinship.
