Happy National Disability Awareness Month! 🩵💛

Today, we’re celebrating John, who has been an important part of the South State Bank family for more than 16 years! 👏
For John, having a job is about so much more than a paycheck. It gives him purpose, confidence, opportunities to grow, and the chance to contribute. He says the people at South State make him feel accepted, loved, and successful, and he’s grateful every day to be part of the bank family.
His favorite part of the job? Having responsibilities, working hard to do his best, and learning new things. And when it comes to his coworkers, John says their smiles, morning hugs, encouragement, and kindness make him love being part of the team!

Outside of work, John continues to make a difference in our community as an InReach board member and a dedicated supporter of our fundraising efforts. We are so grateful for the leadership, heart, and enthusiasm he brings to everything he does!

John is a wonderful example of what is possible when people have the opportunity to work, contribute, grow, and be part of a team.

💙 A story of sisterhood, disability, family, and the power of connection.

LeAnne was a beloved InReach program participant whose life touched so many people in our community. After decades of institutional and emotional separation, LeAnne and her sister, Christine, found their way back to each other during the final years of LeAnne’s life.

Christine has created SisterhoodShip, a deeply personal documentary that follows their journey of reconnection, caregiving, autonomy, and finding moments of joy together. It is both a documentary and an act of love, created with the hope of bringing greater understanding and advocacy to the intellectual and developmental disability community.

We are honored to be part of a Charlotte sneak peek and fundraising screening of SisterhoodShip on October 13 from 6:00–8:00 PM at Independent Picture House. The evening will include a Q&A with the filmmakers, InReach, and other organizations that supported LeAnne.

🎬 Come experience a preview of this powerful story and help support the film’s mission to make it accessible to the IDD community and beyond.

💙 Celebrating our Gaynelle Group Home for Deaf Awareness Month! 💙

This September, we’re celebrating the four incredible individuals who call InReach’s Gaynelle group home their home. Each resident brings their own personality, interests, talents and joy to the InReach community.

Gaynelle is more than a home. It’s a place where four individuals who are Deaf and have intellectual and developmental disabilities can build community and be surrounded by people who understand and celebrate who they are.

And behind it all is Shenita, Gaynelle’s incredible Group Home Manager! Shenita is a true rock star who brings dedication, compassion and so much heart to the individuals she supports. 🌟

We’re proud to celebrate Gaynelle, its residents and the importance of creating inclusive communities where everyone has the opportunity to feel connected, supported and at home.

Today’s DSP Spotlight is Scott! 💙

For Scott, the best part of being a DSP is seeing the progress his customers make toward their goals and the pride and joy on their faces when they accomplish something new.

One of his favorite memories so far was a Friday filled with water games at Clanton Day Center, bringing everyone together and encouraging them to step outside their comfort zones!

For 7 years, Deloris has been making a difference in the lives of the people she supports at InReach. Her favorite part of the job? “Making a difference in my customers’ lives.”

One of her favorite memories is becoming Employment Specialist of the Year when she first started, along with an unforgettable trip to the Bahamas with a group of InReach program participants! 🌴✈️

It’s DSP Appreciation Week, and today we’re celebrating Tabitha! 💙

Tabitha has been part of the InReach family since 2018 and currently serves as an Employment Specialist, Outcome Specialist, and Meaningful Day staff member.

Her favorite part of the job? Never knowing what each day will bring! From hearing about an amazing weekend to, “Tabitha, look at my bruise!” She loves that every day keeps her on her toes.

One of her favorite memories was a 2024 beach trip with our Supported Living Department. Watching the people we support make their own choices, enjoy their freedom, and live life on their terms truly warmed her heart. 🏖️💙
