You'll hear practical information, have the opportunity to ask questions, and gain a better understanding of what it means to foster.

☀️ Over the last week, 21 foster families were surprised with summer fun baskets on their doorsteps! Each basket was thoughtfully put together with items tailored to the ages and interests of the children in the home - a small reminder that they are seen, known, and cared for.

So far this year, CFK has:

💝 Delivered 116 gifts to foster and kinship families

🍽️ Hosted two "It's Good to Gather" events for parents and two for the whole family (welcoming 177 attendees!)

🚗 Provided 37 DoorDash meals

🗣️ Held three Foster Info Sessions

Every gift, meal, gathering, and conversation is a reminder to foster families that they are not alone and the work they do matters.

This month’s “Now That I Know” campaign was built around a simple truth: many people care deeply about kids and families impacted by foster care - they just don’t know how they can help.

Awareness leads to action. Throughout Foster Care Awareness Month, our community learned, showed up, and found tangible ways to support kids, caregivers, and child welfare professionals.

Here are just a few examples from this month:

🩵 donated $1,000 to CFK and created space to advocate for youth transitioning from foster care to independent living.

🩵 Forest Hill Church and Seven Twelve Roofing hosted their annual golf tournament benefiting CFK.

🩵 donated ethnic hair care kits to The Landing Platform, helping meet practical needs with dignity and care.

🩵 CFK celebrated Nurses Appreciation Week with gift drop-offs for DSS pediatric nurses and delivered goodies to the after-hours social worker unit as a small reminder that their work matters and is appreciated.

🩵 The Mentor Match team hosted back-to-back Topgolf events for mentor pairs and youth hoping to connect with a mentor.

As you make your way through five fun stations, you’ll drop off gifts, grab treats, dance along with our DJ (from the comfort of your vehicle), and experience a little Christmas in July magic along the way.

The Landing Platform was created five years ago (formerly CAREnow) to meet the immediate, tangible needs of children, families, and young adults in the child welfare system. It's a way to step in quickly and help someone right now.

As part of The Landing Platform, CFK meets the specific needs of youth in care with teen shopping trips through donations, grants and mall partnerships.

With the generosity of , this young man had the opportunity to experience a fun afternoon getting everything he needed to attend his senior prom!

Our volunteers do so much to encourage, support, and serve the foster care community through CFK, and hearing the impact of those moments is always a reminder that small acts of kindness truly matter.

Take a look back at last year’s Socialight Drive-Thru as volunteers showed up to celebrate and care for frontline social workers. We’re already looking forward to doing it all again this July!

One social worker shared:
“Being celebrated and encouraged throughout the year helps me remember my 'why'. Especially when I’m exhausted and have been here for years.”

Let's give a warm welcome to our newest CFK Board Members!

🩵 WILL HUFF
Will joined the CFK board last year and brings both a heart for vulnerable children and a passion for philanthropy. As a Major Gifts Officer at Brookstone Schools, husband, and dad of two girls, he believes love is shown through action and using what we’ve been given to serve others well.

🩵 NICHOLE THOMPSON
Nichole is passionate about serving vulnerable children and strengthening families. She’s a writer, author, Bible study leader, volleyball coach, wife, and mom of two who felt called to invest in Charlotte’s foster care community after learning more about the needs in our city.

🩵 CHRISTINA SLOAT
Christina has served on staff at Forest Hill Church since 2016 and currently serves as Kingdom Investment Associate Director. As a wife and mom of two, she is passionate about helping children and families feel seen, supported, and valued, and loves how CFK brings the Church and community together to care for kids experiencing foster care.

Beth has served in the nonprofit sector for over 20 years, including roles as Executive Director and Board Chair. She is passionate about furthering Christ’s work by serving underserved communities, strengthening nonprofits, and supporting healthy families.

We’re incredibly grateful for the generosity of our grant partners Coca-Cola Consolidated, For Others, and Providence Baptist Church - Charlotte, NC. Their support helps CFK continue showing up for vulnerable kids in our community.

These grants are helping strengthen the ways we come alongside older youth experiencing foster care, while also providing holistic support and encouragement to frontline child welfare workers and advocates.
