*************
By decree of the President of the Republic of January 13, 2026, published in the Official Gazette on January 14, 2026, the date for the referendum under Article 138 of the Constitution for the amendment of certain articles of the Constitution (the so-called "Justice Reform") has been set for March 22 and 23, 2026.
Please remember that VOTING is a RIGHT protected by the Italian Constitution and that, according to Law No. 459 of December 27, 2001, Italian citizens residing or temporarily abroad, registered in the electoral rolls, can VOTE BY MAIL, receiving the ballot package at their address of residence. To this end, it is recommended to check and, if necessary, immediately update your personal data – in particular, any changes of address that may have occurred but have not yet been communicated – with the competent consular office (please note that by law, ballot packages must be sent almost a month before the voting date in Italy), preferably using the Fast It online consular services portal.

Italian food is some of the best in the world, and it commonly leaves Americans baffled — how can Italians eat so much pasta, cheese, and bread and still stay fit?

Yesterday the Washington Post published an article exploring the cultural and dietary differences between the US and Italy. Some fun facts include:

1. On average, Italians consume 51.2 pounds of pasta per person per year compared to Americans' 19.4 pounds.

2. Italians eat more fish but less meat than Americans.

3. U.S. consumers buy an average of 37 gallons of soda per year, nearly triple the Italian average.

4. Italian food generally comes in smaller portions. It's about quality over quantity.

So, what's your take on American vs. Italian food and eating habits? Do you notice a difference in your habits between the countries?

The obesity rate in Italy is far below that in the U.S., even though Italians enjoy multicourse meals involving pasta.

San Giovanni, held on June 24th, celebrates the height of summer with deep-rooted traditions that highlight both the sacred and the seasonal. Across Italy, this festival marks the vibrancy of the season, from bonfires that ward off evil to the making of Nocino liqueur from green walnuts.

In cities like Florence, Turin, and Lake Como, festivities range from street parades to fireworks, while countryside traditions like Acqua di San Giovanni continue to be cherished for their magical, healing properties.

Do you celebrate San Giovanni in your own way? Share your personal traditions and stories with us!
