🔥 Firing Up Again! 🔥 fired up her wood kiln for the first time since Hurricane Helene — a huge milestone as .pottery and her prepare for Potters Market at the Mint this Saturday. and also joined them in firing pots.

This moment is a powerful reminder of the devastating impact Helene has had on our ceramic artist friends across WNC. While many are still recovering, the resilience and creativity of this community continue to shine through. 💪🏺

We are excited to shine a spotlight on Reiko Miyagi, who is based in the Asheville area and is the featured potter for this year’s Potters Market at the Mint.

Reiko was born in Japan and worked as a studio potter in the area of Mashiko, a renowned folk pottery town, before she relocated to the U.S. Rooted in the Japanese belief - “yaoyorozu no kami” - that all things possess a spirit, Reiko creates pottery that seeks to inspire the harmony between nature, people, and our surroundings. name symbolizes a fresh, open mindset, where each creation begins anew. 🌿🏺

“My hope is that my work would be used to help celebrate the daily rituals of life and to make harmonious and beautiful surroundings,” says Reiko

A multi-generation potter, Ben Owen Pottery blends family tradition with modern artistry. Drawing inspiration from Asian, English, and early American pottery, he creates works that honor his grandfather’s legacy while exploring bold forms, colors and finishes. His pieces range from functional vessels to striking large-scale designs, all rooted in a philosophy of simplicity and innovation.

⭐️ Kate Waltman
Kate Waltman The Triangle Studio uses local clays and wood-fired kilns to create objects of beauty and desire. Through intricate carving and pattern work, her pieces capture the balance between wild nature and refined domesticity. Her process—from raw earth to finished form—celebrates tradition while producing artful, functional and decorative pottery.

⭐️ David Stuempfle
work bridges traditional and contemporary studio pottery. Inspired by history, nature, and global influences, he crafts both functional and sculptural pieces.
