Fort Moultrie for Carolina Day Weekend!
June 27–28

Join us as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Sullivan’s Island at Fort Moultrie, SC.

On June 28, 1776, British forces attempted to seize the strategic fort on Sullivan’s Island. Against tremendous odds, Patriot defenders successfully held off the Royal Navy, protected Charleston, and secured one of the earliest and most important American victories of the Revolutionary War. The battle also made the Palmetto tree famous, as the fort’s palmetto log walls absorbed British cannon fire rather than splintering.

Come learn more about this pivotal battle, 18th century military life, and Revolutionary War weaponry. Kingsbury’s Artillery will be performing artillery drills throughout the weekend.

We hope to see you there as we celebrate 250 years of American history!

Kingsbury’s gun is front and center in the new American Battlefield Trust video! Our cannon sponge became an unexpected star, with a camera mounted to the ramrod for some incredible footage.

Our members proudly served as historical interpreters, helping train the young actors in 18th century musket volleys, artillery drills, cannon firing, and period correct marching. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring Revolutionary War history to life.

the Picture by KJ caught Privates Smith and Zupon in the King’s service at the Battle of Walkup’s Plantation. Fighting alongside fellow Crown forces portraying the 71st Regiment of Foot, the 84th Regiment of Foot, and the 7th Regiment of Foot, they brought 18th century military history to life for spectators at the Museum of the Waxhaws.

No one does 18th century cooking like the distaff at Kingsburys. Our Captain’s wife Diane and her staff use locally sourced ingredients and cook entirely over an open fire. At the Battle of Waxhaws they made salmagundi. A hearty salad of greens, meats, fruits, and vegetables with pickled cabbage, a staple preserved food found on colonial tables.
